We describe a 72-year-old man suffering from renal cell carcinoma with lung metastases who developed scaly erythema on his face after the administration of recombinant interleukin-2 (rIL-2). A skin biopsy revealed intraepidermal and superficial perivascular infiltrate of mononuclear cells that were mainly composed of CD3 positive T-cells. PURPOSE: To investigate the relationship between serum SIL-2R levels and uveitis.
METHODS: SIL-2R levels were measured in sera of 64 patients with active uveitis by ELISA assay, 61 healthy subjects as control.
RESULTS: Serum SIL-2R levels in the patients with active uveitis were significantly higher than that in the controls, but there were no significant difference among anterior uveitis, intermediate uveitis, Behcet disease and Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada syndrome. After therapy the serum SIL-2R levels were obviously decreased.

We reviewed the records and radiologic studies of eight patients who developed new focal neurologic abnormalities while receiving interleukin-2 (IL2)-based immunotherapy for malignancy or HIV infection. It is known that glutathione (GSH) has an immunological effect on several features of the immune system. Myeloablative chemo (+/- radio) therapy and rescue with ABMT has been used as final consolidation therapy in 18 patients with AML in first remission. IL-2 plays an important and complex role in the immune system, serving as a growth factor, a differentiation factor, and a regulator of cell death.
