Migration of a copper T intrauterine device: A clinical Insight into complications and diagnostic approaches.

Intrauterine devices (IUCDs), such as the multi-load copper T, are widely used long-acting reversible contraceptive methods due to their effectiveness and convenience. However, complications can arise in rare instances, such as device migration. Case Series Report Case 1: A 26-year-old, G5 P2 A2 L2, presented with 2 months of amenorrhoea and inability to feel CuT thread. USG done revealed intra-uterine pregnancy of approx. 10 weeks gestational age, however intrauterine CuT was not visualized. So, we presumed it a case of expelled CuT. Regular antenatal care continued till term and LSCS was per

Uterine Perforation With Extrauterine Intrauterine Device (IUD) Migration Following Blunt Abdominal Trauma: A Case Report.

Intrauterine devices (IUDs) are widely used long-acting reversible contraceptives with a favorable safety profile. However, uterine perforation is a rare complication that may result in extrauterine migration of the IUD and may also involve adjacent pelvic or abdominal structures, and is often an incidental finding during imaging performed for unrelated indications. We present the case of a 32-year-old female with a copper IUD placed approximately seven years prior without gynecologic follow-up who presented to the emergency department following a motor vehicle collision with abdominal pain. T

From contraception to complication: Copper-T intrauterine contraceptive device migration leading to foreign body appendicitis.

Uterine perforation is one of the serious complications associated with the use of an intrauterine contraceptive device, and its migration can lead to complications involving neighbouring organs, including the appendix. We report an unusual case of a 22-year-old Pakistani woman, who presented to the emergency department with pain in the right iliac fossa and was diagnosed as a case of foreign body appendicitis resulting from migration of an intrauterine contraceptive device and entering the lumen of the appendix. This case adds to the limited literature, with only 17 previously documented case

Migration of an intrauterine device causing severe hydronephrosis progressing to renal failure: A case report.

RATIONALE: Intrauterine device (IUD) is commonly used in China. Its complications include uterine perforation, IUD ectopic migration, etc. However, a migrated IUD rarely leads to renal failure. PATIENT CONCERNS: IUD insertion in the patient was followed by unexplained pain in the left renal area, without bladder irritation or dysuresia. DIAGNOSES: Hydronephrosis, renal failure, migrated IUD. INTERVENTIONS: The patient underwent laparoscopic and retroperitoneoscopic left nephrectomy, partial ureterectomy, and migrated IUD extraction. OUTCOMES: No complications were found after 1 year of fol

A case report of an abdominal wall fibrolipomatous capsule secondary to the migration of an intrauterine device (IUD).

INTRODUCTION: Intrauterine devices (IUDs) are the most widely used reversible contraceptive method worldwide. Uterine perforation and extrauterine migration are two complications associated with their use. We report one such case in this article. CASE PRESENTATION: A 28-year-old female patient was admitted with a periumbilical abdominal swelling on the left side, causing minimal pain, likely parietal, that had been developing for about 1 year. Ultrasound revealed a fibrous capsule organized around an unidentified foreign body within the anterior abdominal wall. The fibrous capsule was removed

Bladder Stone Formation due to Intravesical Migration of the Intrauterine Device: A Report of 2 Cases.

INTRODUCTION: Approximately 5% of bladder stones occur in women and are usually associated with foreign bodies or urinary stasis. Spontaneous migration of the intrauterine device (IUD) into the bladder is a rare complication. In this report, we present 2 cases of migrated IUD who had undergone surgery at our clinic due to bladder stones. CASE PRESENTATIONS: We detected migrated IUDs into the bladder in 2 female patients, aged 37 and 56 years, who presented with lower urinary tract symptoms and urinary tract infection. In the first case, endoscopic cystolithotripsy was performed, and the IUD w

Intrauterine Contraceptive Device Migrated in the Urinary Tract: Case Report and Extensive Literature Review.

The migration or translocation of an intrauterine device (IUD) in the urinary tract is a rare event. Here, we present the case of a 55-year-old woman who accidentally discovered the ectopic presence of an IUD following a radiological examination for pelvic pain caused by a lumbar discopathy. Over the years, the patient had several IUDs inserted without being able to specify which one had migrated. The removal of the IUD was performed laparoscopically with the minimum resection of the bladder wall and the subsequent cystorrhaphy. The evolution of the patient was favorable. To better analyze the

A new endoscopic method of retrieval of a migrated and transmurally embedded intrauterine contraceptive device in the rectum.

A 45-year-old lady presented with left lower quadrant abdominal pain and hematochezia of 1 month duration. She had Copper-T, an intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) inserted in the immediate post-partum period 25 years ago elsewhere and was lost to follow up. CT abdomen done 2 weeks earlier before reporting to us revealed a migrated and translocated IUCD embedded in the right lateral wall of the rectum. On colonoscopy, an area of friable mucosal nodule was noticed in the right lateral wall 10 cm from the anal verge but the IUCD was not visible intraluminally. Fluoroscopy showed the horizon

Squamous cell carcinoma of the bladder associated with chronic irritation related to a migrated intrauterine device.

Intrauterine devices (IUDs) are one of the most commonly used methods for reversible contraception. This article reports a case of squamous cell carcinoma of the bladder which exhibited a migrated IUD into the bladder. A 66-year-old woman with a 26-year history of IUD use admitted to the clinic with the chief complaint of intermittent macroscopic haematuria. Clinical examination raised a suspicion bladder carcinoma, so cystoscopy and histological sampling were performed and squamous cell carcinoma of bladder was diagnosed, which was related to chronic irritation by a migrated IUD.

Intravesical migration of an intrauterine contraceptive device complicated by giant bladder calculus formation: a case report.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: An intrauterine device (IUD) perforating the uterus and migrating into the bladder to become a nidus for stone formation is an uncommon scenario with a considerable management challenge. CASE PRESENTATION: A 28-year-old woman presented with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) along with pelvic pain of 3 years' duration after 7 years of IUD insertion. A computed tomography scan and cystoscopy confirmed the presence of an IUD with a large stone formation inside the bladder. The stone was successfully fragmented using a pneumatic lithotripter, and the IUD, along with

The wandering intrauterine contraceptive device: An unusual case of omental IUCD migration with multimodality imaging findings.

Uterine perforation with subsequent migration of an intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) is a rare but serious complication. We report the case of a 29-year-old postpartum woman who presented with missing IUCD threads and intermittent right lower abdominal pain 1 month after insertion of a copper T380A IUCD. Ultrasound revealed an empty uterine cavity and a T-shaped echogenic structure in the right abdomen. Abdominal radiography and computed tomography (CT) confirmed extrauterine migration, with the device embedded in the omental fat at the L3-L4 level and no evidence of visceral injury. T

Vaginal Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Removal of a Migrated Intrauterine Device Using the vPORT System.

Intrauterine device (IUD) migration is a rare complication that may necessitate surgical removal, typically via laparoscopy. With advancements in endoscopic surgery, vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (vNOTES) offers a scarless and minimally invasive alternative. A 27-year-old woman (G2P2) with a history of IUD placement 4 years ago was diagnosed with an ectopic IUD in the right adnexa. vNOTES was performed under general anesthesia using the vPORT system (Ankalap, Biomicro Turkiye) for transvaginal access. The IUD was safely removed without complications. This case highlig

Chronic kidney disease after vesico-vaginal stone formation around a migrated intrauterine device.

Although the intrauterine device (IUD) seems a reliable and relatively safe method of contraception, it may cause serious complications. A rare complication is uterus perforation. Intravesical migration and secondary calculus formation is exceptionally uncommon. The authors report on a 75-year-old woman in whom a 'forgotten' migrated IUD resulted in vesico-vaginal fistula formation and chronic kidney disease, 39 years after insertion.

Intrauterine device (IUD) migration to the fallopian tube: a rare location for a translocated IUD with no visceral injury.

BACKGROUND: Loss of Intra Uterine Device (IUD) following silent perforation of the uterus either during or after IUD insertion is an uncommon finding due to a lack of immediate follow-up. We report a rare case in which uterine perforation following the migration of IUD to the right fallopian tube without visceral injury. The patient presented with lower abdominal pain and pain during sex for one year since IUD insertion. On examination, we noted tenderness on the right suprapubic region and on speculum examination, no IUD thread was seen. A radiological pelvic examination showed an empty uteru

Incidentally Diagnosed Type 2 Youssef's Syndrome with Migrated Postcesarean Postpartum Intrauterine Contraceptive Device.

Vesicouterine fistula (VUF) also called Youssef's syndrome is a rare and the least commonly encountered entity among genitourinary fistulae. Treatment options range from excision of the fistulous tract with hysterectomy and primary closure of the urinary bladder to fistula repair. Migrated postpartum intrauterine contraceptive device is one of the rarest causes for VUF. Here, we are describing a case of incidentally diagnosed VUF with Type 2 Youssef's syndrome with migrated postplacental (postcesarean) intrauterine contraceptive device, treated with uterus-sparing laparoscopic VUF closure.
