Primary cysts of the iris usually arise from the pigment epithelial layers and are almost always benign, stationary lesions which require no treatment. Those cysts which are secondary to such agents as trauma or inflammation are, however, characterized by progressive enlargement and visual complications. The major clinical significance of iris cysts lies in their similarity to iris melanomas. Cysts should be monitored for enlargement and/or other complications such as inflammation or secondary glaucoma.

A family is described with hypoplasia of the anterior iris stroma, no angle anomalies, and no glaucoma. The pedigree is suggestive of an autosomal dominant mode of inheritance. This is compared to the main peripheral malformations of the anterior chamber cleavage syndrome and other disease entities with similar iris changes. The pedigree represents a point on the continuum of mesoectodermal dysgenesis or anterior chamber cleavage syndrome.

We describe a twenty six years old lady with tuberculous meningitis who developed new onset left ptosis and binocular diplopia with features of left fascicular 3rd nerve palsy after 9 months of anti tubercular therapy (ATT) and imaging revealed new onset tuberculoma in the mid-brain. Tuberculoma responded to steroids while continuing ATT. Formation of new tuberculoma as a part of immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS) is possible even after prolonged therapy of 9 months, which responded well to only steroids without altering ATT.

CLINICAL CASE: A 5 year-old child diagnosed with moderate anisometropic amblyopia secondary to primary cyst of iris pigment epithelium. He was evaluated with ultrasound biomicroscopy (BMU) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) of anterior segment.
DISCUSSION: The OCT, although with some limitations, is a useful tool to study the anterior segment. It is probably more recommendable than BMU in the childhood.

BACKGROUND: Uveal melanomas can develop in the choroid, ciliary body and iris. In choroidal and ciliary body melanomas, specific chromosomal changes correlate with metastatic disease. Iris melanomas have a better prognosis than choroidal melanomas, and it would be interesting to know if they share chromosomal changes.
