The increase in HIV infection in South Africa poses serious problems not only to medical services in this country, but also to its legal system. Some of the more immediate medico-legal problems surrounding AIDS are discussed: Informed consent to the testing for HIV antibodies, the maintenance of confidentiality and the question of whether health care workers may refuse to treat AIDS patients.

BACKGROUND: Nepal has made significant strides in reproductive rights, legalizing safe abortion services (SAS) in 2002, and recognizing them as fundamental rights in its 2015 constitution. Despite this, over half of abortions remain unsafe, with persistent disparities in access to and utilization of safe abortion services. This study examines the trajectory of Nepal's abortion policy evolution and reform process, and implementation status, and ongoing challenges and opportunities using the heuristic policy cycle framework to inform evidence-based strategies for equitable reproductive rights.

Unsafe abortion is a major public health concern in many developing countries, contributing to a substantial proportion of maternal deaths. Increased legal access to abortion services is associated with improvement in mortality and morbidity. Safe illegal abortion by means of drugs is another possible way to prevent this unnecessary harm to women. The Dutch government, however, is now proposing legal changes that will diminish the access to medical abortion by general practitioners.
