[Stromal leydig cell tumor coexisting with ascites].

The stromal Leydig cell tumour (SLCT), a very rare, benign neoplasm was described in 75-year old woman. The patient presented the typical signs of virilisation (hirsutism, masculine alopecia, moderate clitoris enlargement, deep voice) as well as hypertension and insulin independent type of diabetes mellitus (IIDM). Additionally, she had marked ascites (3400 ml as established during surgery). The serum concentration of testosterone before the surgery was elevated up to 7.6 ng/ml. FSH and LH were at very low range (2.5 mIU/ml, 3.4 mIU/ml, respectively) whereas 17 beta-oestradiol was elevated (56

[Ovarian Leydig cell tumor of stromal localization].

We report the case of a 63-year-old, menopausal patient, yielding hirsutism an associated with clinical virilization. Biological data evidenced an increased androgen production (plasma testosterone at 1.8 and 2.1 ng/ml). Radiological exams (ultrasonography, CT Scan and MRI Scan) failed to find any ovarian tumor, which led to perform an ovarian selective venous percutaneous catheterization. A stromal Leydig cell tumor, associated with a hilar leydigian hyperplasia, was evidenced in pathology. Clinical, biological, radiological and pathological data are successively discussed. Pathophysiology of

[A case of Leydig cell virilizing tumor of the ovary].

A case of Leydig cell virilizing tumor of the ovary in a 68 year old woman, with clinical signs of virilization, clitoromegaly and androgenic alopecia is described. An RMN of encephalon and an abdominal ultrasound were normal. Following total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, the patient had regression of hirsutism, and plasma testosterone dropped to normal level.

Leydig cell tumor of intra-abdominal testis.

A patient with bilateral cryptorchidism and gynecomastia due to Leydig cell tumor involving the left intra-abdominal testis is described. Raised serum estrogen, low serum testosterone, and ultrasonic demonstration of a tumor in the left testis allowed the diagnosis to be suspected preoperatively. The relevant literature is reviewed.

[Hypoplasia of Leydig's cells as a cause of male pseudohermaphroditism].

A case of male hermaphroditism is presented. It complied with all traditional criteria of male hermaphroditism due to Leydig's cells hypoplasia (anomaly of the internal genitalia, karyotype 46, XY, presence of the testicular tissue, no response of the hypoplastic Leydig's cells to HCG stimulation with simultaneous dramatic decrease in their number in the interstitial tissue. Emphasis is on the marked difference in incomplete virilization of the external genitalia related to the occurrence of Leydig's cells insufficiency.

Virilization due to a Leydig cell adrenal adenoma.

Virilizing adrenal adenomas are rare, and Leydig cell adenomas of the adrenal rarer still. Our patient, a 60-year-old virilized woman, was found to have a Leydig cell adenoma. Virilization associated with normal 17-ketosteroid and elevated testosterone levels necessitates excluding an adrenal cause. Although one might expect high testosterone levels to suppress gonadotropins, this is not the case. In addition to other studies recommended for assessing the incidentally discovered adrenal mass, we would add a testosterone assay.

Hormonal profile of Leydig cell tumors with gynecomastia.

The hormonal profile of estrogen-secreting Leydig cell tumors was studied in four patients. Plasma testosterone (T) and estradiol (E2) levels varied from day-to-day whereas the T/E2 ratios were decreased (22:85, normal 170 to 440). hCG administration induced a higher estrogen response in the patients than in normal men. The finding in the spermatic venous blood of the tumor-bearing testis of a particular biochemical profile, including a low T/E2 ratio (12:27), associated with high progesterone/17-hydroxyprogesterone ratios (0.13:0.26) and high 17-hydroxyprogesterone-androstenedione ratios (26:

Ultrastructure of feminizing testicular Leydig cell tumors.

The ultrastructure of a feminizing testicular Leydig cell tumor was analytically compared with that of the five reported feminizing neoplasms and with that of the eight published masculinizing or hormonally inactive tumors. Certain observations were noteworthy but of uncertain significance. In the current case, nuclear outlines tended to be irregular, nuclear pores were relatively few, chromatin was often uniformly dispersed, and nucleoli were frequently multiple. Membranous whorls and "myelin figures" were common. Collectively, the nuclear aberrations were noted only in the two feminizing neo

Molecular profile of atypical Leydig cell tumours.

AIMS: To investigate histological and copy number variations (CNVs) in Leydig cell tumours (LCTs) of the testis. Although usually benign, a small minority of cases can be associated with a poor prognosis and metastasis. METHODS: We performed whole copy number analysis to compare the genomic profile of atypical (defined by the presence of any atypical features) versus benign LCTs. Our sample consisted of one malignant (with biopsy-proven metastasis), five atypical and five benign cases. RESULTS: We found increased genomic instability in the malignant tumour and within two out of five (40%) at

Leydig cell hyperplasia in the setting of Klinefelter syndrome.

A man in his 20's with Klinefelter syndrome presented to the urology clinic with a recent history of left-sided orchalgia. Ultrasound evaluation demonstrated multiple small hypoechoic lesions bilaterally, with the largest lesion measured at 5 mm × 6 mm × 8 mm. Testis cancer tumour markers, chest radiographs and abdominal CT imaging were negative. A partial orchiectomy was performed on the largest lesion, demonstrating the presence of Leydig cell hyperplasia.

[Cases of Leydig cell tumor in male infertility].

1745 patients at the Department of Urology of Tenon Hospital (Paris, France) from 1990 to 2006 and at the department of urology of Tbilisi State Medical University (Georgia) during last several months have been examined and counseled on male infertility. Leydig cell tumor was found in 4 patients, among them 3 by palpation and testicle echography, fourth patient (at the age of 33) with bilateral varicocele (III stage at the left, II stage at the right) was more interesting for us. Leydig cell tumor was found out at the scrotum exploration. Oligoteratozoospermia (OATS) has been distinguished fro

Occult Leydig cell tumor in a patient with gynecomastia.

OBJECTIVE: To report a case of a clinically occult testicular tumor causing gynecomastia and to alert physicians to the importance of use of testicular ultrasonography in patients with progressive gynecomastia despite normal findings on testicular examination. METHODS: We present a detailed case, including results of clinical, laboratory, and radiologic assessment, of a man with hyperprolactinemia and gynecomastia. RESULTS: A 36-year-old man with progressive gynecomastia was referred to our clinic because of an increased serum prolactin level. Subsequent clinical investigation revealed no ev

[An occult Leydig-cell tumor in a cryptorchid testis].

OBJECTIVE: A case of Leydig cell tumor in a cryptorchid testis is described. METHODS: A 55-year-old man presented with no specific scrotal symptoms. A cryptorchid testis was discovered on physical examination and the patient was submitted to orchidectomy. RESULTS: A solid, well-circumscribed, round nodule of 0.8 cm in diameter was found in an atrophic testis. The histological examination showed a Leydig cell tumor with crystals of Reinke and immunostaining with vimentin. CONCLUSION: Leydig cell tumor may be related with cryptorchidism.

[Leydig cell tumor of the testis: a case report].

A 63-year-old male visited our hospital with a complaint of painless swelling of the left scrotum. Left high orchiectomy was performed since ultrasonography suggested a testicular tumor. Histologically, this testicular mass was a Leydig cell tumor. We reviewed 47 cases of this tumor previously reported in Japan.
