[Groups at high risk for skin cancer].

A special program aimed at detecting skin cancer at early stages was worked out and launched into use in 1989. It provides for a series of measures for primary examination and subsequent follow-up of population. Dermatologists conducted examinations of persons at high risk 2-4 times a year depending on the disease. They were joined by oncologists, whenever required, and morphological examinations were sometimes carried out. The group at high risk for skin cancer included patients older than 50, with the following pathologies: (I) Obligate precancerous dermatites: Bowen's syndrome, erythroplasi

Trends in lip, oral cavity, and pharyngeal cancer mortality in the United States, 1999-2019.

BACKGROUND: Changes in the epidemiology of lip, oral cavity, and pharyngeal (LOCP) cancers have been reported in the United States. This study aimed to examine recent trends in LOCP cancer mortality in the United States from 1999 to 2019. METHODS: National mortality data were extracted from CDC WONDER, 1999-2019. International Classification of Diseases Codes, 10th Revision-C00-C14, were used to identify decedents of malignant neoplasms of the lip, oral cavity, and pharynx. LOCP cancer mortality trends were assessed by fitting a Joinpoint regression model overall, and by race/ethnicity, sex,

Prosthetic rehabilitation of edentulous patient with limited oral access: A clinical report.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Microstomia may result from surgical treatment of orofacial neoplasms, cleft lips, maxillofacial trauma, burns, radiotherapy or scleroderma. A maximal oral opening that is smaller than the size of a complete denture can make prosthetic treatment challenging. This clinical report presents the prosthodontic management of a total edentulous patient with microstomia. Sectional mandibular and maxillary trays and foldable mandibular and maxillary denture were fabricated for the total edentulous patient.

Microcystic adnexal carcinoma-diagnostic criteria and therapeutic methods: case report and review of the literature.

Microcystic adnexal carcinoma (MAC) is a rare, infiltrating, locally aggressive cutaneous neoplasm of combined follicular and eccrine/apocrine histogenesis, usually presenting on the upper lip or face. Differentiation from other adnexal tumours is very important because the clinical management of these tumours is radically different, and misdiagnosis may lead to incorrect treatment. A case of recurrent MAC in the upper lip, treated with multiple excisions and postoperative radiation therapy (PORT), is presented herein. There have been no signs or symptoms of recurrence since the subsequent rec

Lumpy, bumpy guinea pigs: a retrospective study of 619 biopsy samples of externally palpable masses submitted from pet guinea pigs for histopathology.

Biopsy data on externally palpable masses in pet guinea pigs were retrieved from the archives of a large commercial pathology laboratory between November 2013 and July 2021. Of the 619 samples submitted from 493 animals, 54 (8.7%) had arisen from the mammary glands and 15 (2.4%) from the thyroid glands, with the remaining 550 (88.9%) involving the skin and subcutis, muscle (n = 1), salivary glands (n = 4), lips (n = 2), ears (n = 4) and peripheral lymph nodes (n = 23). Most of the samples were neoplastic, with 99 masses classified as epithelial in origin, 347 as mesenchymal, 23 as round cell,

Malignant epithelioid hemangioendothelioma of the lip: a case report and comprehensive literature review.

Malignant epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (MEH), also known as high-risk epithelioid hemangioendothelioma, is a low- to intermediate-grade vascular malignancy originally described as a vascular neoplasm of endothelial origin. This very rare vascular neoplasm has been described mainly in soft tissue, but also in various organs and locations, including the liver, lung, brain, colon, lymph nodes, peritoneum, spleen, bone, skin, heart, soft tissues, and vascular system. Several cases have been described in the head and neck, including the submandibular gland, parotid gland, nasal cavity, paraphar

Cervical superficial myofibroblastoma: Case report and review of the literature.

Superficial myofibroblastoma of the lower female genital tract is a rare benign, recently recognized neoplasm that mostly affects the vulvovaginal area. Our report discusses a case of cervical superficial myofibroblastoma of the lower female genital tract in a 45-year-old patient who is presented with menometrorrhagia. On examination, she had multiple uterine fibroids and a circumscribed submucosal mass lesion involving the anterior lip of cervix. At hysterectomy, histopathological examination of the cervical mass revealed a relatively hypocellular tumor consisted of bland spindled and stellat

An uncommon case of fibrolipoma.

Lipoma is a common benign soft-tissue neoplasm derived from mature adipose tissue neoplasm, but its presence in the oral and pharyngeal region is relatively uncommon. Oral lipoma was first described by Roux in 1848 as "yellow epulis." It has an incidence rate of about 1%-4% of all benign oral lesions, with a prevalence rate of about 0.0002%. Fibrolipoma is an extremely rare subtype of lipoma which accounts for 1.6% of all facial lipomas. Specific anatomic locations of occurrence within the oral and maxillofacial region include the parotid region, buccal mucosa, lips, submandibular region, tong

Risk of second cancer after lymphohematopoietic neoplasm.

People living with lymphohematopoietic neoplasms (LHNs) are known to have increased risks of second cancer; however, the incidence of second cancers after LHNs has not been studied extensively in Australia. The Australian Cancer Database was used to analyze site-specific risk of second primary cancer after LHNs in 127,707 patients diagnosed between 1983 and 2005. Standardized incidence ratios (SIRs) were calculated using population rates. Overall, patients with an LHN had nearly twice the risk of developing a second cancer compared to the Australian population. Among 40,321 patients with non-H

Canalicular adenoma: A systematic review.

OBJECTIVE: Canalicular adenoma (CA) is an uncommon but unique benign tumor of salivary gland origin. It is the third most common benign tumor of minor salivary glands, representing less than 1% of all salivary neoplasms. A systematic review is presented of reported cases of CA, to determine trends in presentation, diagnostic features, treatment, and patient outcome. METHODS: Searches of specific databases, as reported, were carried out to identify papers reporting CA. The variables were patient symptoms, tumor location, histopathological findings, demographics, treatment, follow-up, and recur

Bronchiolar adenoma/ciliated muconodular papillary tumor complicated by lymphoid interstitial pneumonia in a patient with Sjögren's disease: A case report and systematic review.

Bronchiolar adenoma (BA)/ciliated muconodular papillary tumor (CMPT) is a rare pulmonary neoplasm, with less than 150 cases documented in the literature. We report a unique case of BA/CMPT complicated by lymphoid interstitial pneumonia (LIP) in a 55-year-old male with Sjögren's disease. This is the first documented instance of such a comorbidity. Through a systematic review of PubMed, we also summarize the demographic, clinical, radiological, histopathological, and treatment characteristics of CMPT.

Management of a xeroderma pigmentosum case with oral findings in a dental setup.

Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) is heterogeneous group of disorder transmitted as autosomal recessive trait. It is characterised by photosensitivity, freckled pigmentation and premature skin ageing and malignant tumour development. The manifestations are due to a cellular hypersensitivity to ultraviolet light resulting from a defect in DNA repair. Multiple cutaneous neoplasms develop at a young age in persons with XP. Two important causes of mortality are metastatic malignant melanoma and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). We report a case of XP in a 22 year-old male patient who developed SCC of lower

Angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia on lip in a 10-year-old girl.

Angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia (ALHE) is an uncommon benign vascular lesion that is clinically characterized as papule or nodule and commonly found in the head-and-neck areas although rarely involve oral cavity. The etiology of ALHE is currently unknown, and various hypotheses include a reactive vascular proliferation, vascular malformation or neoplasm. ALHE is mostly occurs in middle-aged females and rare in children. Here, we are presenting a case of ALHE on lip in a 10-year-old female child.

Merkel cell: Friend or felon.

Merkel cells are perceived as tactile receptors within skin and oral mucosa containing abundant intermediate filaments but lacking characteristic condensation of tonofilaments, hence are also referred to as non-keratinocytes. Merkel cell carcinomas (MCCs) are primary aggressive neuroendocrine neoplasms occurring in elderly individuals. Toker in 1972 reported MCC of skin pointing towards sweat glands as the source of origin which was later rectified by Tang with the aid of ultrastructural studies as Merkel cells to be a lineage of such tumours. Normally, Merkel cells are abundant in the gingiva

Subsequent primary neoplasm risk among survivors of cancer in adolescence and young adulthood: a population-based study from Alberta, Canada.

BACKGROUND: Survivors of cancer in adolescence and young adulthood are at increased risk for subsequent primary neoplasms, but studies using Canadian data are limited. We sought to quantify the risk of subsequent primary neoplasms among survivors of cancer in adolescence and young adulthood in Alberta, Canada. METHODS: The Alberta Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Survivor Study is a retrospective, population-based cohort of people aged 15 to 39 years with a neoplasm first diagnosed between 1983 and 2017. We assessed risks of subsequent primary neoplasms overall and after 5-year survival, cal

Oncological resource allocation in Germany.

BACKGROUND: Oncology is a resource-intensive medical discipline where, so far, effectiveness rather than efficiency of a treatment has stood in the foreground. The aim of our study was, therefore, to determine the resource allocation and to assess the efficiency of oncology in Germany for the period of 2002-2004. MATERIALS AND METHODS: With the aid of the official German Health Report, the expenditures for health in 2004 and the gain in years of life according to ICD 10 disease categories were analyzed. Based on the incremental costs and years of life gained, the cost calculation per year of

A population-based study of incidence trends of head and neck epithelial cancers in northeastern Spain, 1994-2018.

BACKGROUND: Head and neck cancer (HNC) is the seventh most common cancer worldwide. Incidence rates of these tumors vary between countries and change over time depending on the prevalence of risk factors such as tobacco and alcohol consumption, betel nut chewing habits or human papillomavirus infection. This makes it necessary to periodically study HNC incidence trends in each geographic area. METHODS: To determine trends in the incidence of HNC, all cancer cases diagnosed in Girona and Tarragona (northeastern Spain) between 1994 and 2018, except mesenchymal and hematological neoplasms, were
