Previous studies involving injuries to the nerves of the cauda equina and the conus medullaris have shown that lumbosacral ventral root avulsion in rat models results in denervation and dysfunction of the lower urinary tract, retrograde and progressive cell death of the axotomized motor and parasympathetic neurons, as well as the emergence of neuropathic pain. Root reimplantation has also been shown to ameliorate several of these responses, but experiments thus far have been limited to studying the effects of lesion and reimplantation local to the lumbosacral region. Here, we have expanded the…

A 67-year-old woman underwent total hysterectomy for cervical cancer followed by chemotherapy, achieving partial remission. Post-treatment, … asis site of cervical cancer to the lumbosacral nerve roots. When multiple peripheral nerves in the lumbosacral region are involved in patients with cervical cancer, the possibility of direct tumor infiltration into the adjacent nerve plexus followed by progression along axons to the nerve roots must be considered, even when the primary tumor is controlled.

The use of the water-soluble radiocontrast substance Dimer-X in lumbosacral myelography in 22 patients with a stable pain syndrome in the lumbosacral region showed that this method makes it possible to disclose the cause of the disease exactly and to reveal or rule out any neurosurgical pathology of this region. This examination is tolerated well by the patients, does not produce serious complications, and may be conducted in any neurosurgical institution.

INTRODUCTION: Lumbosacral radiculopathy is a pathological process that refers to the dysfunction of one or more spinal nerve roots in the lumbosacral region of the spine. Some studies have shown that infrared thermography can estimate the severity of the clinical manifestation of unilateral lumbosacral radiculopathy. This study aimed to examine the correlation of the regional thermal deficit of the affected lower extremity with pain intensity, mobility of the lumbar spine, and functional status in patients with unilateral lumbosacral radiculopathy.
METHODS: This cross-sectional study was cond…

The Schober test is considered reliable in evaluating lumbar mobility and its impairment. Especially in patients with chronic low back pain (cLBP) identification of functional restriction is important. We aimed to investigate whether the 5 cm Schober cut-off provides a valid distinction between unrestricted and restricted mobility in participants with and without cLBP (18-65 years). cLBP is defined as LBP persisting for ≥ 12 weeks. We analyzed agreement between the Schober test with two measurement devices (Epionics SPINE®; Idiag M360®) and the influence of lumbar lordosis (LL) on their agreem

INTRODUCTION/OBJECTIVES: Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) constitutes a multimodal approach, based on available scientific evidence, that achieves better patient's functionality, reduces pain, and even lowers financial costs. The present consensus statement proposes the standards for the implementation of ERAS programmes to lumbar fusion surgery, a meant benchmark we call REPOC.
METHODOLOGY: A multidisciplinary group of experts was set up ad hoc to review consensus recommendations for lumbar arthrodesis, using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRAD
