Application of magnetite nanoparticles for selective magnetic solid-phase extraction of tetracycline residues from honey prior to their HPLC-MS/MS determination.

Magnetite nanoparticles are proposed as a selective magnetic sorbent for the extraction of tetracyclines from both aqueous and organic media, with the sorption behavior systematically investigated as a function of contact time, sorbent mass, solution volume, and sorbate concentration. Under the optimized conditions, 20 mg of nanoparticles effectively isolated 94-100% of the analytes from 10 mL of aqueous, acetonitrile, ethyl acetate, or methanol solutions. It was demonstrated that a 0.1 M aqueous tetramethylammonium hydroxide solution can be used as an eluent compatible with mass spectrometric…

Insights in to iron-based nanoparticles (hematite and magnetite) improving the maize growth (Zea mays L.) and iron nutrition with low environmental impacts.

The possible potential application of Fe-NPs on Fe nutrition, heavy metals uptake and soil microbial community needs to be investigated. In the current research, a pot experiment was used to examine the implications of Fe-NPs (α-Fe2O3 and Fe3O4) on maize growth, Fe uptake and transportation, soil microbial community, and environmental risk. Fe3O4, α-Fe2O3, FeSO4 at a rate of 800 mg Fe kg-1 were applied in soils with four replications under a completely randomized design for a period of 60 days. Results showed that Fe uptake by maize roots were increased by 107-132% than control, with obvious v

Application of silica coated magnetite nanoparticles modified with Cu(I)-neocuproine as nanosorbent to simultaneous separation-preconcentration of trace amounts of nitrate and nitrite.

A novel, inexpensive and sensitive type of magnetic nanosorbent based on the functionalized silica-coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles was prepared and used for the adsorption of trace amounts of nitrite and nitrate ions. The work is based on selective ion-pairing complex formation of nitrate and nitrite with Cu(I)-neocuproine which are covalently bounded on nanoparticles. Nitrite was determined according to its reaction with barbituric acid to give violuric acid and determination of nitrate was based on its reduction to nitrite in the presence of Zn/NaCl. After formation of violuric acid, the absorban

Biocompatible magnetite nanoparticles coated with ionic liquid-based surfactantas a hydrophilic sorbent for dispersive solid phase microextraction of cephalosporins prior to their quantitation by HPTLC.

Extraction of highly hydrophilic compounds from biological fluids including urine or plasma samples is a dilemma due to high hydrophilicity of the matrix itself. The main aim of the current work is to explore the competence of ionic liquid (IL)-based surfactant-coated mineral oxide nanoparticles (NPs) in dispersive solid-phase microextraction (d-SPME) of highly hydrophilic analytes taking cefoperazone (CPZ) as a model analyte for the study. The IL-based surfactant coated Fe3O4 NPs is utilized as an innovative adsorbent for the separation and pre-concentration of CPZ after intramuscular injecti

SMART RHESINs-Superparamagnetic Magnetite Architecture Made of Phenolic Resin Hollow Spheres Coated with Eu(III) Containing Silica Nanoparticles for Future Quantitative Magnetic Particle Imaging Applications.

Magnetic particle imaging (MPI) is a powerful and rapidly growing tomographic imaging technique that allows for the non-invasive visualization of superparamagnetic nanoparticles (NPs) in living matter. Despite its potential for a wide range of applications, the intrinsic quantitative nature of MPI has not been fully exploited in biological environments. In this study, a novel NP architecture that overcomes this limitation by maintaining a virtually unchanged effective relaxation (Brownian plus Néel) even when immobilized is presented. This superparamagnetic magnetite architecture made of pheno

Efficient and regenerative phosphate removal from wastewater using stable magnetite/magnesium iron oxide nanocomposites.

Using magnetite-based nanocomposite adsorbents to remove and recycle phosphate from wastewater is crucial for controlling eutrophication and ensuring the sustainable use of phosphorus resources. However, the weak structural stability between magnetite and adsorptive nanoparticles often reduces phosphate removal efficiency in real-world applications. This instability primarily results from the loss of adsorptive nanoparticles from the magnetite surfaces, particularly when metal oxide nanoparticles are used for phosphate removal and recycling. In this study, we present a top-down approach that i

Temporal and spatial resolution of magnetosome degradation at the subcellular level in a 3D lung carcinoma model.

Magnetic nanoparticles offer many exciting possibilities in biomedicine, from cell imaging to cancer treatment. One of the currently researched nanoparticles are magnetosomes, magnetite nanoparticles of high chemical purity synthesized by magnetotactic bacteria. Despite their therapeutic potential, very little is known about their degradation in human cells, and even less so of their degradation within tumours. In an effort to explore the potential of magnetosomes for cancer treatment, we have explored their degradation process in a 3D human lung carcinoma model at the subcellular level and wi…

Magnetite in the abdomen and antennae of Apis mellifera honeybees.

The detection of magnetic fields by animals is known as magnetoreception. The ferromagnetic hypothesis explains magnetoreception assuming that magnetic nanoparticles are used as magnetic field transducers. Magnetite nanoparticles in the abdomen of Apis mellifera honeybees have been proposed in the literature as the magnetic field transducer. However, studies with ants and stingless bees have shown that the whole body of the insect contain magnetic material, and that the largest magnetization is in the antennae. The aim of the present study is to investigate the magnetization of all the body pa…
