A 31-year-old woman, with primary infertility associated with cervico-vaginal defect, presented with intermittent breathlessness often correlated by the patient with menses, cough and chest pain. The clinical pharmacological, and neuroradiological observations in six patients with spontaneous blepharospasm-oromandibular dystonia (Meige's) syndrome are recorded. Meige syndrome (MS) is cranial dystonia characterized by the combination of upper and lower cranial involvement and including binocular eyelid spasms (blepharospasm; BSP) and involuntary movements of the jaw muscles (oromandibular dystonia; OMD). INTRODUCTION: Chronic dislocation of the temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ) is rare. It occurs when an acute dislocation is left untreated, in certain situations, including severe illness, neurologic or psychiatric diseases or prolonged oral intubation.
CASE REPORT: A 79 years old woman, with Meige syndrome, suffered from bilateral dislocation of the TMJ for over 1 year. Surgical repositioning of the mandibular condyles and temporal bone eminectomy were performed. At the 18 postoperative months control, no recurrence has been noted.

INTRODUCTION: Meige syndrome (MS) is characterized by blepharospasm, facial, oromandibular, and often cervical dystonia. The medical treatment of this condition is challenging and unsuccessful over long time. BACKGROUND: Pallidal deep brain stimulation (DBS) of globus pallidus internus (Gpi) has emerged as an effective treatment for dystonia. The experience is however limited concerning focal dystonias and to date only a few cases of pallidal DBS in the treatment of Meige syndrome have been published.
METHODS/RESULTS: We here present a patient with Meige syndrome in whom unilateral pallidal DBS failed to improve the axial symptoms, but bilateral stimulation resulted in a major improvement. The Burke-Fahn-Marsden score (BFM) improved by 71.5% and the patient's blepharospasm was abolished.

PURPOSE: To determine the frequency of remission in patients with essential blepharospasm and Meige syndrome.
METHOD: Retrospective analysis of patients by means of questionnaire in an institutional setting.

Two patients developed either blepharospasm or blepharospasm-oromandibular dystonia following chronic therapy with chlorpromazine, haloperidol, or thioridazine. Meige's Syndrome is a combination of blepharospasm and oromandibular dystonia (cranial dystonia) that can affect the pharyngeal and respiratory musculature. We are reporting a case of a 61 year-woman with this diagnosis who presented a laryngeal stenosis due to sinequia on posterior commissure. The symptoms were an association of hoarseness and dyspnea with a clear movement in all pharyngo-laryngeal structures because of her illness. Meigs' syndrome includes an ovarian tumor, usually fibroma, associated with hydrothorax and ascites. It is accepted that uterine tumors, like fibromas, can also be associated with ascites and hydrothorax, but this is extremely rare. In a 66-year old woman, progressive worsening of an exertional dyspnoea revealed the presence of an abundant right pleural effusion. The patient had a right ovarian mass, highly suspect at ultrasonography. Thoracoscopy showed a macroscopically normal pleura with normal cytology and histology. The ovarian tumour was very irregular, but it was found to be benign at histology. This gonadic goitre of the right ovary was entirely removed, and the pleural effusion did not recur.

Meige's syndrome is a form of cranial dystonia characterized by the presence of bilateral dystonic spasms of the facial muscles and frequently of other cranial muscles as well.
