Occupational Exposure to Chemical Solvents and Heavy Metals and Oxidative Stress-Related Sperm Dysfunction in Textile Workers.

Occupational exposure to chemical solvents and heavy metals among workers in textile-related industries has emerged as a significant risk factor for male reproductive dysfunction; however, the underlying biological mechanisms remain incompletely understood. Oxidative stress has been proposed as a key mediator linking occupational exposure to impaired sperm morphology and function. This study aimed to evaluate the association between occupational exposure to chemical solvents and toxic metals and alterations in sperm function, with particular emphasis on oxidative stress-mediated pathways. The effects of heavy metals and their interactions with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons on the oxidative stress among coke-oven workers.

Heavy metals and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are predominate toxic constituents of particulate air pollution that may be related to the increased risk of cardiopulmonary events. We aim to investigate the effects of the toxic heavy metals (arsenic, As; cadmium, Cd; chromium, Cr; nickel, Ni; and lead, Pb), and their interactions with PAHs on oxidative stress among coke-oven workers. A total of 1333 male workers were recruited in this study. We determined their urinary levels of As, Cd, Cr, Ni, Pb, twelve PAH metabolites, 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), and 8-iso-prostaglandin-F2α (

Retrospective assessment of exposure by experts: the example of formaldehyde, solvents and mineral oils among textile and metal workers.

The validity of retrospective assessment of occupational exposure greatly depends on the amount of detail in the available information, on the knowledge of the specific industrial process by the experts, and on the criteria adopted to define relevant exposure. These criteria are difficult to standardize and are rarely made explicit in published reports, which makes it difficult to interpret inconsistencies among different studies. In two ongoing case-control studies on kidney cancer and, respectively, malignant lymphomas, a detailed occupational history was obtained and supplemented by 19 addi

Integrated Assessment of Internal Metal Mixtures and Plasma Neurodegeneration Biomarkers in Relation to Mild Cognitive Impairment among Aluminum Workers.

Workers in aluminum smelting and processing, besides aluminum, are also chronically exposed to other complex metal mixtures in their working settings, yet integrated evidence linking internal dose, blood neurodegeneration biomarkers, and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) remains limited for occupational surveillance. We measured plasma concentrations of 10 metals (Al, Zn, Li, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Cu, Se, Pb) and plasma neurodegeneration-related biomarkers (Aβ42/Aβ40, GFAP, NfL, Total-tau, P-tau181, P-tau396) in 382 aluminum workers in Shanxi, China, and evaluated associations with MCI. Co-exposure to metals and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, microRNA expression, and early health damage in coke oven workers.

BACKGROUND: All humans are now co-exposed to multiple toxic chemicals, among which metals and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are of special concern as they are often present at high levels in various human environments. They can also induce similar early health damage, such as genetic damage, oxidative stress, and heart rate variability (HRV). Exposure to metals, PAHs, and their combined pollutants can alter microRNA (miRNA) expression patterns. OBJECTIVES: To explore the associations of metal-PAH co-exposure with miRNA expression, and of the associated miRNAs with early health damag

Pilot study on the internal exposure to heavy metals of informal-level electronic waste workers in Agbogbloshie, Accra, Ghana.

Informal-level electronic waste (e-waste)-processing activities are performed at hotspots in developing countries such as India, China, and Ghana. These activities increase the ambient burden of heavy metals and contribute to the toxic exposure of the general population. However, few data exist on the internal exposure of populations involved in these informal activities and in close contact with fumes from the direct combustion of electronic waste products in these countries. Therefore, in a cross-sectional study design, we analyzed blood, urine, and hair samples from 75 e-waste workers resid
