Metal-Free Photocatalytic CO2 Reduction to Formate Driven by Visible Light via a Consecutive Photoinduced Electron Transfer Mechanism.

Realizing efficient and selective photocatalytic CO2 reduction (PCO2R) using metal-free organic systems under visible light remains a significant challenge. Here, we report the first metal-free, self-sensitized molecular photocatalyst capable of driving visible-light-induced CO2-to-HCOO- conversion via a consecutive photoinduced electron transfer (ConPET) mechanism. The rationally designed BPI-OMe, featuring an electron-donating group, demonstrates exceptional performance under visible light irradiation, achieving a formate production rate of 27.51 mmol g-1 h-1 with > 99% selectivity. Hierarchical ZnIn2 S4 /MoSe2 Nanoarchitectures for Efficient Noble-Metal-Free Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution under Visible Light.

A highly efficient visible-light-driven photocatalyst is urgently necessary for photocatalytic hydrogen generation through water splitting. Herein, ZnIn2 S4 hierarchical architectures assembled as ultrathin nanosheets were synthesized by a facile one-pot polyol approach. Subsequently, the two-dimensional-network-like MoSe2 was successfully hybridized with ZnIn2 S4 by taking advantage of their analogous intrinsic layered morphologies. The noble-metal-free ZnIn2 S4 /MoSe2 heterostructures show enhanced photocatalytic H2 evolution compared to pure ZnIn2 S4 . It is noteworthy that the optimum nano

Photocatalytic degradation effect and mechanism of Karenia mikimotoi by non-noble metal modified TiO2 loading onto copper metal organic framework (SNP-TiO2@Cu-MOF) under visible light.

In this study, the SNP-TiO2@Cu-MOF composite was prepared successfully by loading non-noble metal modified TiO2 (SNP-TiO2) on the surface of copper metal organic skeleton (Cu-MOF), and compared the inactivation efficiency of different photocatalysts to Karenia mikimotoi (K. mikimotoi) under visible light. The obtained photocatalyst had the characteristic crystal faces of Cu-MOF and SNP- TiO2, and contained functional groups such as Cu-O, -COOH, N-O, P-O, etc., which indicated the structural stability of the photocatalyst. The band gap of SNP-TiO2@Cu-MOF composite was 2.82 eV, and it had great

Deciphering Interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya Interaction in Transition-Metal Dichalcogenide/Permalloy Heterostructures by Brillouin Light Scattering and First-Principles Calculations.

Development of energy-efficient spintronics demands spin-orbit effects and chiral spin textures. The latter requires the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) and its interplay with Heisenberg exchange. Understanding the relative strengths of Heisenberg exchange and interfacial DMI (iDMI) and its scaling with spin-orbit coupling (SOC) is key to stabilizing chiral spin textures in nonmagnet/ferromagnet heterostructures. Here, Brillouin light scattering (BLS) spectroscopy is employed to determine the iDMI and Heisenberg exchange stiffness constants for large-area chemical vapor-deposited monol

Photoaccumulation of Long-Lived Reactive Electrons in a Microporous Ti(IV) Oxocluster-Based Metal-Organic Framework for Light and Dark Photocatalysis.

The microporous Ti12 oxocluster-based metal-organic framework (MOF) MIP-177(Ti)-LT exhibits excellent stability and photoactivity, making it highly promising for photocatalysis. Using transient and photoinduced absorption spectroscopies, the behavior of reactive electrons in MIP-177(Ti)-LT across femtosecond-to-second timescales is investigated. The framework shows efficient charge separation and slow decay kinetics, with photogenerated charges persisting into the microsecond-second (µs-s) range and displaying higher yields and slower recombination than benchmark MOFs MIL-125(Ti)-NH2 and UiO-6

Mechanistic study of visible light driven photocatalytic degradation of clofibric acid using Fe-based metal organic frameworks (MOFs).

Although a series of past studies proved the potential usage of Fe-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as photocatalysts, there remains a knowledge gap of the photocatalytic mechanism stemming from the challenge to separate the simultaneous sorption and photocatalytic degradation. Thus, this article aimed to suggest a novel approach by desorbing target molecules during photocatalysis to excavate the underlying mechanisms of sorption and photocatalytic degradation. In this study, two Fe-based MOFs, MIL-101(Fe) and MIL-101(Fe)-NH2, were selected to remove clofibric acid under visible light irr

Light-driven transition-metal-free direct decarbonylation of unstrained diaryl ketones via a dual C-C bond cleavage.

The cleavage and formation of carbon-carbon bonds have emerged as powerful tools for structural modifications in organic synthesis. Although transition-metal-catalyzed decarbonylation of unstrained diaryl ketones provides a viable protocol to construct biaryl structures, the use of expensive catalyst and high temperature (>140 oC) have greatly limited their universal applicability. Moreover, the direct activation of two inert C - C bonds in diaryl ketones without the assistance of metal catalyst has been a great challenge due to the inherent stability of C - C bonds (nonpolar, thermo-dynamical

Reduced graphene oxide supported C3N4 nanoflakes and quantum dots as metal-free catalysts for visible light assisted CO2 reduction.

The visible light photocatalytic reduction of CO2 to fuel is crucial for the sustainable development of energy resources. In our present work, we report the synthesis of novel reduced graphene oxide (rGO)-supported C3N4 nanoflake (NF) and quantum dot (QD) hybrid materials (GCN) for visible light induced reduction of CO2. The C3N4 NFs and QDs are prepared by acid treatment of C3N4 nanosheets followed by ultrasonication and hydrothermal heating at 130-190 °C for 5-20 h. It is observed that hydrothermal exposure of acid-treated graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) nanosheets at low temperature gener

Facile synthesis of amino-functionalized titanium metal-organic frameworks and their superior visible-light photocatalytic activity for Cr(VI) reduction.

Porous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been arousing a great interest in exploring the application of MOFs as photocatalyst in environment remediation. In this work, two different MOFs, Ti-benzenedicarboxylate (MIL-125(Ti)) and amino-functionalized Ti-benzenedicarboxylate (NH2-MIL-125(Ti)) were successfully synthesized via a facile solvothermal method. The MIL-125(Ti) and NH2-MIL-125(Ti) were well characterized by XRD, SEM, XPS, N2 adsorption-desorption measurements, thermogravimetric analysis and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra (DRS). It is revealed that the NH2-MIL-125(Ti) has well c

Red-light-driven oxidation of aryl thioethers via a superoxide radical-generating zinc(II) metal-organic chain photocatalyst.

The development of sustainable and red-light-responsive photocatalytic systems for selective oxidation of aryl thioethers is a pressing challenge in the field of eco-friendly organic synthesis. Herein, we report the rational design and fabrication of a novel one-dimensional (1D) zinc(II) metal organic chain (MOC-1) by integrating 5,10-dihydrophenazine-based red-light-harvesting ligands with zinc(II)-hydroxide clusters. MOC-1 exhibits strong absorption in the red-light region (600-800 nm), efficient charge carrier separation, and the capability of in situ generating superoxide radicals (O2˙-) u

Deep-Blue and Fast Delayed Fluorescence from Carbene-Metal-Amides for Highly Efficient and Stable Organic Light-Emitting Diodes.

Linear gold complexes of the "carbene-metal-amide" (CMA) type are prepared with a rigid benzoguanidine amide donor and various carbene ligands. These complexes emit in the deep-blue range at 424 and 466 nm with 100% quantum yields in all media. The deep-blue thermally activates delayed fluorescence originates from a charge transfer state with an excited state lifetime as low as 213 ns, resulting in fast radiative rates of 4.7 × 106 s-1. The high thermal and photo-stability of these carbene-metal-amide (CMA) materials enabled the authors to fabricate highly energy-efficient organic light-emitti

Toward cheaper light harvesting systems: Using earth-abundant metal oxide nanoparticles in self-assembled peptide-porphyrin nanofibers.

Cheap artificial light harvesting systems, which competently harvest solar energy and promote efficient energy transfer, are highly sought after in the renewable sector. We report the synthesis of self-assembled peptide-porphyrin fibers (SJ 6) fabricated with iron(III) oxide (Fe3 O4 ) nanoparticles as feasible electron acceptors. Charge-complementarity between the negatively charged peptide (20E) and the protonated Zn-tetraphenyl porphyrin (ZnTPyP) led to an ordered assembly of the ZnTPyP molecules, enabling efficient light harvesting. X-ray diffraction data indicates a more ordered structure

Green photocatalytic remediation of Fenthion using composites with natural red clay and non-toxic metal oxides with visible light irradiation.

In the present work, composites with non-toxic metal oxides, such as TiO2 and ZnO, and a natural red clay (taua) reach in hematite were used in the photocatalytic degradation of Fenthion. The composite TiO2/Taua (0.5:1 wt. ratio) and pure TiO2 were prepared by sol-gel method while ZnO/Taua (0.5:1 wt. ratio) and pure ZnO were prepared by Pechini method. The materials were characterized by XRD, SEM, EDX, and DRS. The anatase phase was formed in both pure TiO2 and TiO2/Taua, while the hexagonal phase was formed in pure ZnO and ZnO/Taua. The bandgap energies for the two composites were narrowed co

Two zinc metal-organic framework isomers based on pyrazine tetracarboxylic acid and dipyridinylbenzene for adsorption and separation of CO2 and light hydrocarbons.

Two highly porous metal-organic framework isomers Zn2(TCPP)(DPB) (1 and 2, H4TCPP = 2,3,5,6-tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)pyrazine and DPB = 1,4-di(pyridin-4-yl)benzene) were successfully synthesized using different solvents and acid species to adjust the topologies of these two MOFs. Both of them were constructed by paddlewheel Zn2(COO)4, TCPP4-, and DPB ligands. In compound 1, the Zn2(COO)4 paddlewheel units were fitted together by the TCPP4- ligands to form two-dimensional layers, which were further connected by DPB ligands as pillars to construct a two-fold catenated 3D framework. In compound 2

Visible-light-driven photocatalytic reduction of Cr(VI) over EDTA-TiO2 through surface complexation and ligand-to-metal charge transfer.

The energy band gap of commercial TiO2 (P25, ~ 3.04 eV) is slightly narrower than that of pure TiO2 (~ 3.2 eV), yet remains inactive under visible light. In contrast, ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) introduced by surface complexation with organic ligands can significantly enhance light absorption and effectively narrow the band gap. Here, electron-rich ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) serves as an electron donor and coordinates with TiO2 via carboxylate linkers. As a result, the EDTA-TiO2 complex exhibits efficient visible-light-driven photoreduction of toxic Cr(VI) to non-toxic C

White-light-excited multicolour room-temperature phosphorescence: Mg2+-coordinated metal-organic amorphous composites for anti-counterfeiting and information encryption.

The development of white-light-excited room-temperature phosphorescent (RTP) materials with tunable emission remains a significant challenge for practical applications. Herein, we report a novel strategy to achieve this goal using amorphous metal-organic amorphous composites (MOACs) based on Mg2+ coordination. Mechanistic studies reveal that the MgO coordination bonds not only broaden the visible-light absorption but also suppress non-radiative decay by restricting molecular motion and blocking O2 permeation within the rigid MOACs matrix. By rationally redesigning the luminescent centers, we s
