Out of 440 pleural biopsies done with Abrams or Castelain needle, performed over 11 years in 300 pleural effusions, only 14 incidents of accidents occurred. There were 9 minor ones (intrapleural bleeding, subcutaneous emphysema, pneumoserosa by aspiration). Neoplastic graft along the biopsy tract was observed in 5 cases, of which 4 were primitive malignant mesotheliomas and one a primitive appearing neoplastic pleurisy. Retroperitoneal or transperitoneal laparoscopic radical nephrectomy is currently proposed by an increasing number of urologists as an alternative to conventional open surgery to treat renal tumours. The authors report a case of metastasis to unusual sites (sigmoid colon, small intestine, root of the nose) after converted retroperitoneal laparoscopic radical nephrectomy for a T3 renal tumour, which raises the problem of the possible role of the laparoscopic approach in this unusual metastatic progression of the disease.

A case of histologically benign lymph nodal metastases from a uterine leiomyoma in a 27-year-old woman is reported. It is postulated that fragments of a leiomyoma, detached at the time of endometrial curettage, entered dilated lymphatic channels in or adjacent to a large projecting submucous leiomyoma, and seeded several pelvic and para-aortic lymph nodes. During an interval of 8 years, these grew slowly and did not infiltrate the perinodal tissues or give rise to secondary metastases.
