Polymorphous low-grade neuroepithelial tumor of the young: A detailed pathomolecular analysis and discussion of a case.

AIM: Polymorphous low-grade neuroepithelial tumor of the young (PLNTY) is a rare entity with a diffuse, infiltrative pattern, awaiting to be included in the WHO CNS tumor classification; it occurs in pediatric and young patients with seizures and harbors mutually exclusive BRAFV600E or FGFR mutations. Nonetheless, the presence of these mutations may not be obligatory for diagnosis. The conventional histology of these tumors resembles that of oligodendrogliomas. We aimed to discuss a PLNTY case in a young woman presenting with seizures due to a parietal brain tumor and to provide an analysis of

Cytologic features of papillary tumor of the pineal region: A case report showing tigroid background.

Papillary tumor of the pineal region (PTPR) is a rare neuroepithelial tumor of the pineal region of adults. We herein describe on a 34-year-old female the cytologic features of a PTPR studied using Diff-Quik stain. The patient presented hydrocephalia secondary to a pineal tumor. During surgery an intraoperative pathologic consultation was requested. Smears were hypercellular with numerous papillary tissue fragments and single cells. Papillary fragments had an evident inner vascular core. Neoplastic cells displayed moderate pleomorphism, plasmocytoid morphology, and cytoplasmic fragility. The b

Teratocarcinosarcoma-Like and Adamantinoma-Like Head and Neck Neoplasms Harboring NAB2::STAT6: Unusual Variants of Solitary Fibrous Tumor or Novel Tumor Entities?

The archetypal solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) features fibroblastic cells with varying cellularity without any particular architectural arrangement in a collagenous matrix, with staghorn vessels, CD34 and STAT6 expression, and NAB2::STAT6. To date, this fusion is thought to be specific for SFT. With more routine use of fusion gene panels, the histologic diversity of NAB2::STAT6-positive tumors is increasingly appreciated. Here we present four head and neck tumors harboring NAB2::STAT6 but exhibiting remarkably unusual morphologic features for SFT. All cases were pulled from the authors' consulta

Characterization of High-Grade Glial and Related Neuroepithelial Tumors Using the AOSNP-ADAPTR Framework: A Case Series With Review of Literature.

High-grade glial tumors are among the most aggressive primary neoplasms of the central nervous system and are associated with substantial morbidity, rapid progression, and poor survival. The classification of high-grade glial tumors requires a diagnostic approach combining histomorphology with immunohistochemical and molecular findings. In resource-constrained settings, the AOSNP-ADAPTR (Asian Oceanian Society of Neuropathology - Adapting Diagnostic Approaches for Practical Taxonomy in Resource-Restrained Regions) framework provides a practical strategy for implementing these principles using

Complete regression of papillary tumor of the pineal region after radiation therapy: case report and review of the literature.

Papillary tumor of the pineal region (PTPR) is a rare neuroepithelial tumor that arises in the pineal region. The optimal treatment for PTPR remains controversial, as no definitive treatment strategy exists for this lesion. It is not clear whether aggressive surgical removal is superior to biopsy followed by radiotherapy. The majority of cases in the literature have undergone attempted gross total resection with a supracerebellar-infratentorial or a transcallosal-transventricular approach. In this report, we describe a case of PTPR in a 23 year-old male that presented as a third ventricular ma

Sinonasal teratocarcinosarcoma of the head and neck: a report of 10 patients treated at a single institution and comparison with reported series.

OBJECTIVES: To present the clinicopathologic features of 10 sinonasal teratocarcinosarcomas managed at a single center. Teratocarcinosarcoma is a rare morphologically heterogeneous and highly malignant neoplasm. Previous reports of these tumors have focused on their differential diagnosis and histogenesis and consisted of individual case reports and consultation based series. DESIGN: Review of patient medical records and microscopic slides of all tumor tissues. The histopathologic features for each tumor and the demographic, clinical, treatment, and follow-up information were recorded for eac

Primary spinal cord astroblastoma: a case report and systematic review of the literature detailing management and understanding histopathological, epigenetic, and molecular analysis.

OBJECTIVE: Astroblastomas (ABs) are rare glial tumors categorized by MN1 gene alterations in the WHO 2021 CNS tumor guidelines. While previously reported primarily in cerebral hemispheres, there have been few reports regarding primary spinal ABs, and no established guidelines have been published on the management of these lesions. Here, the authors present an illustrative case with a systematic review exploring presenting characteristics, diagnosis, management, and outcomes of spinal AB. METHODS: The patient's electronic medical record was retrospectively reviewed. Additionally, a systematic

[Gliomatosis cerebri: evolution to glioblastoma multiforme].

INTRODUCTION: Gliomatosis cerebri is a neoplastic disorder characterized by diffuse infiltration of glial cells with relative conservation of the underlying structures. Seizures, headache and behavior disorders are generally the initial manifestations. CLINICAL CASE: A 38 year-old male who had complex partial seizures and behavior disorder of three months' evolution. The brain magnetic resonance imaging showed hyperintense lesions in T2 suggestive of gliomatosis cerebri, this being confirmed with the brain biopsy. Several months later, he suffered rapid clinical deterioration, observing the d

Olfactory neuroblastoma in a domestic cat and review of the literature.

Nasal tumors account for less than 10% of all feline neoplasms, with lymphoma, followed by adenocarcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma, the most commonly reported. Nasal neuroectodermal tumors, including olfactory neuroblastoma (ONB), are scarcely described, and their tumorigenesis is largely unknown. Here we report the cytological, histological, and immunohistochemical features of a feline ONB. We also provide a pathological review of nasal neuroendocrine neoplasms in cats. A 7-year-old Burmese cat was evaluated for sneezing, occasional epistaxis, and upper respiratory noise for 8 months. Com

A Granular Cell Variant of Adult Primary Leptomeningeal Gliomatosis Mimicking a Granulomatous Process: A Case Report With Molecular Characterization.

We report the case of a 77-year-old patient with glioblastoma, IDH-wildtype, presenting as adult primary leptomeningeal gliomatosis with granular cell morphology in the biopsy. The clinico-radiological presentation initially suggested a non-neoplastic granulomatous process. Comprehensive molecular studies and post-mortem examination were subsequently performed.

Atypical presentation of dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumor in an adult without epilepsy: a case report.

Aim of the study: Dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumor (DNET) is a rare glioneuronal tumor usually found in the temporal lobe of children and young adults. DNETs are commonly associated with drug-resistant partial seizures, with most cases diagnosed before age 20. Asymptomatic brain tumors are rare in the general healthy population, and the frequency of incidental DNETs in adults remains unknown.Materials and methods: We report the case of a 34-year-old healthy man who presented with a facial rash but was incidentally found to have a large T1 hypointense lesion in the left temporal cortex on

Diffuse leptomeningeal glioneuronal tumours: clinico-pathological follow-up.

Glioneuronal tumours are a group of primary brain neoplasms of relatively recent acquisition in the World Health Organization (WHO) Classification of the Central Nervous System tumours. In diagnostic practice it is still possible to encounter glioneuronal tumours that cannot be placed into any of the well-defined WHO categories despite a growing list of entities. We have recently published four paediatric cases of diffuse leptomeningeal tumours that cannot be easily classified in the currently used CNS WHO classification, but which have histological and immunohistochemical criteria to be consi

A 33-year-old Chinese woman with a left frontal tumor.

Rhabdoid tumor cells are typically observed in atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor (AT/RT) but may also be seen in meningioma, glioma, melanoma, rhabdomyosarcoma and metastatic carcinoma. We present an astroblastoma with unusual rhabdoid features which is rarely described in the English literature. Apart from the rhabdoid tumor cells, all the histopathological features typical for astroblastoma are present in this case. These features include pseudopapillary arrangement, astroblastic pseudorosettes, perivascular hyalinization and calcifications, absence of fibrillary background and a pushing tumor

Split liver transplantation for retroperitoneal immature teratoma masquerading as hepatoblastoma.

Extragonadal teratoma originating from the retroperitoneum represents less than 5% of all teratomas and accounts for less than 10% of all pediatric retroperitoneal neoplasms. To date, there has been no report of teratoma managed with LT. This study reports an infant aged 3 months with retroperitoneal immature teratoma involving the hepatic hilum, refractory to chemotherapy and treated with LT. The patient was referred to our hospital for management of a growing abdominal mass. Histopathology of a fine needle biopsy of the lesion suggested the possibility of a hepatoblastoma with teratoid featu

Papillary Tumor of the Pineal Region Presenting With Obstructive Hydrocephalus: A Diagnostic and Management Challenge.

We report a 45-year-old woman with a papillary tumor of the pineal region (PTPR), a neuroepithelial neoplasm of the pineal gland, who presented with a one-year history of headaches, visual disturbance, and gait impairment and was found to have a pineal mass with obstructive hydrocephalus. She underwent endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) with biopsy; the initial radiologic impression favored pineocytoma. Immunohistochemistry was nondiagnostic on the limited sample, and the diagnosis of PTPR was established only after review at two academic neuropathology centers. DNA methylation profiling w
