The contraceptive effect and side effects of three modern contraceptive pills, a high-dose combined (Ovidon), a low-dose combined (Rigevidon) and an only postcoital gestogen pill (Postinor) was studied in a total of 167 women. All the studied preparations were found to be well tolerated and highly effective.

OBJECTIVE: To study aspects of the aetiology of primary dysmenorrhoea and mechanisms underlying the therapeutic effect in this condition of an oral contraceptive.
INTERVENTION: Intrauterine pressure was recorded before and during infusion of hypertonic saline (5% NaCl, 0.06 ml/kg/min) over 75 min on the first day of bleeding in women with dysmenorrhoea and after 3 weeks of oral contraceptive treatment. Plasma sampling every 15 min of ongoing infusion for the estimation of osmolality, arginine vasopressin, oxytocin and the prostaglandin (PG) F-metabolite, 15-keto-13,14-dihydro-PGF2 alpha.

Pathological examination in a patient who developed an ischemic cerebrovascular accident while taking an oral contraceptive demonstrated widespread lesions in the right and left carotid regions. A 44-year-old lady presenting with hirsutism was found to have a testosterone-secreting Leydig cell tumour of the right ovary. Serum testosterone levels were adequately suppressed for 8 years by combined oestrogen/progestogen preparation (Microgynon 30, Schering, West Sussex). The fall in gonadotrophin and testosterone levels during therapy and their rise after stopping therapy suggests that the tumour was gonadotrophin dependent.

BACKGROUND: There are no published reports of an association between triphasic oral contraceptives and the development of panic disorder.
METHOD: The authors describe two cases in which the use of triphasic oral contraceptives in women appear to have precipitated panic disorder. Treatment with the triphasic oral contraceptives was stopped and the patients were followed for 2 years.
RESULTS: Both subjects had rapid and total resolution of their panic disorder symptoms following cessation of triphasic oral contraceptive medications.
CONCLUSION: Triphasic oral contraceptives in some predispose

A case is presented of a Sweet's syndrome-like eruption in association with the oral contraceptive. A 46 year old caucasian woman developed recurrent episodes of erythematous tender plaques on her trunk six weeks after commencement of the oral contraceptive (OC).
