Failure of eruption of the mandibular permanent canine is an unusual event. This case report presents combined surgical and orthodontic management of an impacted permanent mandibular canine of a 10-year-old boy. Treatment considerations for impacted mandibular canines differ in comparison with other teeth. The paper also highlights on various treatment options, timing and biomechanical considerations while dealing with these teeth.

Dentoalveolar trauma is an important etiologic factor for tooth loss. A multidisciplinary approach to treatment is necessary because the fun … ral incisor had a subgingival fracture, and the treatment included endodontic treatment followed by orthodontic extrusion using a temporary intraradicular retention pin and an orthodontic elastic band attached to a provisional prosthesis for anchorage. A dental implant and a connective tissue graft were placed at the site of the avulsed tooth. Subsequently, 5 zirconia …

This article describes a patient whose permanent canines and premolars had not erupted at age 14 years, although their root formation was complete, with closed apices. Surgical and orthodontic treatment was planned to correct the multiple impactions. The orthodontic traction used 5 strategic teeth and allowed for the eruption of all 12 impacted teeth. The surgical-orthodontic treatment of many impacted teeth yielded good esthetic and periodontal results, as shown by the patient's satisfaction and the periodontal probing 2 years after the treatment. Multiple impacted teeth are a rare eruption d

Preservation of natural teeth in the anterior region is often preferred over replacement with dental implants due to functional and esthetic considerations. Although orthodontic extrusion preserves soft tissue architecture, it may not be suitable in all cases. Atraumatic extrusion using minimally invasive extraction systems allows controlled coronal repositioning of teeth while preserving periodontal structures. This case report presents the clinical application of atraumatic root repositioning of a maxillary canine as an alternative to orthodontic forced eruption. The findings suggest that th…

Background/Objectives: This finite element analysis (FEA) assessed stress distribution in the tooth and dentin within an intact periodontium under 4 N of force and five orthodontic movements (intrusion, extrusion, rotation, tipping, and translation), using four failure criteria commonly used in numerical dental studies. Secondly, differences between brittle- and ductile-like failure criteria were found, and the most accurate criterion was determined. Additionally, movements more prone to inducing external orthodontic root resorption were assessed. Methods: Using nine 3D models of the second lo

This review deals with the different methods of lengthening the clinical crown and discusses the advantages and/or disadvantages of each met … the other hand, not all situations which require lengthening of the clinical crown can be solved by orthodontic extrusion and fiberotomy. Therefore, depending on the clinical problem, either the surgical lengthening of the clinical crown or the orthodontic extrusion with separation of the fibers are the recommended procedures.

OBJECTIVES: To systematically identify, summarize, and qualitatively synthesize the available clinical evidence on orthodontic traction-based management strategies for impacted maxillary central incisors, with particular emphasis on treatment duration, eruption success, and periodontal outcomes.
METHODS: A comprehensive literature search was conducted across six databases (PubMed®, Google Scholar, Embase®, Scopus®, Web of Science, and the CENTRAL). Randomized and non-randomized clinical studies evaluating orthodontic traction-based management strategies for impacted maxillary central incisors

BACKGROUND: The present article compares innovative treatment strategies for impacted maxillary central incisors, emphasizing the critical importance of prioritizing root development over rapid crown alignment.
METHODS: Two case reports using distinct clinical approaches are presented. Case 1 utilized a traditional combination of closed-eruption surgical exposure and conventional orthodontic traction, while Case 2 utilized a novel root-oriented traction technique, which ensures the development of tooth roots and utilizes the natural eruption power.
RESULTS: Both techniques achieved successfu

Orthodontic extrusion of nonrestorable teeth has been used for almost 20 years as an alternative to bone grafting in preparation for implant placement. Although this technique predictably creates bone and soft tissue, and improves the socket diameter and depth, most of the bone apposition occurs in the marginal alveolar and periapical areas of the extruded tooth. To create more labial bone, the standard orthodontic extrusion technique was modified to apply pressure on the hopeless tooth both coronally and palatally, which allowed bone at the site to develop apically and labially. Gingival thic…

A 12-year-old girl was referred to the orthodontic department of Kerman dental school with a chief complaint of two unerupted upper left & right front teeth. Patient had no significant medical & Dental history. Intra oral and radiographic examination revealed missing of two maxillary permanent central incisors. Orthodontic treatment involved two phases: Phase 1 Impacted maxillary central incisors: surgical exposure and force eruption with removable appliance. Phase 2: whip appliance is used to correct rotation of right permanent maxillary incisor.

Close eruption technique is preferred in deep, buried, intraosseous and labially impacted teeth to provide healthy and fuinctional attached gingiva but in this technique failure of bonded attachment usually means, repeat exposure of the impacted tooth. This article describes an innovative method for bonding two attachments (Double Bonding System) in combination instead of one. It provides the safe and determinate system for ortho-eruption, avoid the trauma of patient from re-exposure and enhance the comfort as well the confidence of the operator.

PURPOSE: The present study aims to systematically review the literature on the effect of combined surgical-orthodontic treatment on the periodontal health of labially maxillary impacted canines, comparing the results between the three available surgical approaches, open and closed eruption technique and apically positioned flap.
METHODS: Seven electronic databases and three registers were searched until September 2024 and lists of references from relevant publications were screened to identify studies (randomised (RCTs) / controlled clinical trials (CCTs) and observational) assessing the peri
