In the authors' experience, correction of hypertelorbitism either by facial bipartition or by moving only the orbits has proved to be very stable. This is based on the design of the osteotomies and the use of the frontal bar. On the contrary, the rotation of the midfacial segment combined with mandibular lengthening for the correction of Treacher Collins has a strong tendency to relapse because of the backward pull of the soft tissues. Primary stability in these cases depends on the quality of bone grafts, their placement, and skeletal fixation.

With certain orthognathic surgery patients, such as epileptics, severe asthmatics, or those with other medical problems that increase risk during intermaxillary fixation, there occasionally may be an indication for a reduced fixation time. By using Vitallium mesh for stability, immobilization for 2 to 2 1/2 weeks has proved to be sufficient in a limited number of cases. Mobilization before two weeks has not been attempted. The procedure, however, is not recommended as a routine method of fixation.

Fourteen patients with fracture of the capitulum of the humerus were treated, ten by excision of a large fragment or multiple small fragments. Their results were superior to those in patients treated either by closed reduction or by open reduction and fixation. Nine had good to excellent retention of elbow motion, six had no pain, and three had minimum pain. None of the ten had valgus deformity or instability.
