Sclerosing Mesenteritis Presenting as a Pseudotumor of the Greater Omentum.

OBJECTIVE: The aim was to demonstrate a diagnostic challenge of sclerosing mesenteritis initially considered as liposarcoma. CLINICAL PRESENTATION AND INTERVENTION: A 45-year-old man was admitted with a painful abdominal mass. Abdominal computed tomography demonstrated a well- demarcated tumor in his left hemiabdomen, with a large fat component and areas of soft tissue attenuation suggestive of liposarcoma. Intraoperative findings showed a tumor arising from the greater omentum. The tumor was completely removed, and histopathology confirmed a pseudotumorous type of sclerosing mesenteritis wit

Mesenteric masses: approach to differential diagnosis at MRI with histopathologic correlation.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an outstanding tool for the identification and characterization of mesenteric masses. Mesenteric masses may be solid or cystic. Most solid mesenteric masses are neoplastic, with sclerosing mesenteritis a notable exception. Entirely cystic mesenteric masses are typically benign. The excellent soft-tissue contrast afforded by MRI aids in narrowing the differential diagnosis of mesenteric masses. Accurately characterizing both solid and cystic mesenteric masses is important, as management ranges from active surveillance to medical management to surgical resecti

[Relapsing polychondritis and mesenteric panniculitis: apropos of 2 cases].

We report two cases of polychondritis associated with mesenteric panniculitis. Case 1. In February 1989, a woman born in 1949 presented with 40 degrees C fever accompanied by pain in the abdomen and pelvis. Eight days later, nodular skin lesions appeared on her lower limbs. The abdomen was swollen with gas and undepressible. An abdominal CT scan revealed partitioned peritoneal collections, and a guided needle aspiration produced a chylous fluid. Direct and indirect bacteriological examinations gave negative results. Histology showed intense inflammatory reaction with giant cells and lipophages

A case of malignant peritoneal mesothelioma suggesting the utility of combining double-contrast radiography and endoscopy with computed tomography for diagnosis.

A 68-year-old woman presented with abdominal pain, weight loss, and vomiting. Enhanced computed tomography (CT) showed slightly increased density in the mesentery and edema of the third portion of the duodenum and proximal jejunum. Little ascites, but no primary lesion, lymph node metastases, or distant metastases, were observed. Endoscopic findings included erythema and edema in the distal duodenum and proximal jejunum without epithelial lesions. Double-contrast radiography revealed transverse ridging with convergence, suggesting a serosal lesion. We suspected disease involving the serosa, su

Tuberculous peritonitis; The effectiveness of diagnostic laparoscopy and the perioperative infectious prevention: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Tuberculous peritonitis (TBP) is uncommon in Japan, and its diagnosis with conventional methods is time taking and requires a high clinical index of suspicion. Laparoscopy with peritoneal biopsy is a tool for rapid and accurate diagnosis of TBP. However, few cases have mentioned the infectious control and prevention during the perioperative period. This case is written following the SCARE scale for case report writing. CASE PRESENTATION: A 30-year-old man from Southeast Asia with a past medical history of pulmonary tuberculosis at 3-year-old admitted to our institution with abdomi

Mesenteric panniculitis: systematic review of cross-sectional imaging findings and risk of subsequent malignancy.

OBJECTIVES: Systematic review to determine any association between imaging features of idiopathic mesenteric panniculitis (MP) and subsequent malignancy. METHODS: Two researchers searched primary literature independently for imaging studies of MP. They extracted data focusing on methodology for unbiased patient accrual and capability to determine a link between MP and subsequent malignancy. They noted imaging features of MP. Data were accrued and meta-analysis intended. RESULTS: Fourteen of 675 articles were eligible; 1,226 patients. Only three (21 %) accrued patients prospectively. Twelve (

[Retractile mesenteritis. Report of 4 cases].

Retractile mesenteritis is a rare condition in which the inflammation process of the mesentery is the characteristic pathological. The histologic changes are variable proportions of fat necrosis, chronic inflammation and fibrosis. The clinical presentation of this process is diverse, also the natural history is variable, ranging from a benign to fatal disease. We reviewed 4 cases of retractile mesenteritis and evaluated the clinical manifestations. There was no gender predominance. The patients aged range was 63-69 years (average 65) Patients more often presented with abdominal mass (cases n:

Incidental idiopathic focal sclerosing mesenteritis in a 4-month-old child.

Sclerosing mesenteritis is a rare non-cancerous disease affecting the small bowel mesentery, which occurs predominantly in older age. The exact etiology is not known. Clinical symptoms are very variable and they include abdominal pain and distention, nausea, and vomiting. We present a case of a 4-month-old boy, who died suddenly at home. Based on the investigation of the circumstances of death, results of toxicology tests and histological examination the case was concluded as sudden infant death syndrome. During life, the child had repeated abdominal pain with distention. Secondary autopsy fin
