A case of congenital absence of pericardium associated with a right-sided diaphragmatic hernia is described. The diagnosis of pericardial defect was made intraoperatively. The surgical approach to repair the pericardium and diaphragmatic hernia is also discussed.

A rare cas of hydatic disease is reported, located both in the pericardium and diaphragm. The pericardial cyst was diagnosed on the basis of clinical examination and echocardiography. The diaphragmatic cyst was only discovered during surgery.

Rupture of the pericardium due to closed thoracic trauma is a very rare event which is hard to diagnose. It occurs in the form of two main clinical pictures: 1) severe chest trauma with massive haematoma requiring surgery and which permits diagnosis, and 2) precordial pain and clinical signs of pericardiac origin. Surgery is essential in view of the risk of lethal complications from cardia luxation. Operation consists of closure of the pericardiac lesion.

AIM: Autologous pericardium annuloplasty (APA) is an alternative to prosthetic ring implantation for mitral valve (MV) repair, avoiding the use of foreign material and preserving the mitral annulus' physiological motion. OBJECTIVES: Many different grafting materials have been proposed in myringoplasty. The aim of this study was to evaluate the results obtained in transmeatal underlay myringoplasty using bovine and equine pericardium. The results were compared with those obtained by using autologous temporalis fascia.
METHODS: The study group consisted of 52 patients with tympanic perforation. Twenty-nine patients were randomly selected for treatment with bovine pericardium and 23 for equine pericardium. A group of 14 patients was treated with autologous temporalis fascia.

We report a rare case of bronchogenic cyst associated with congenital complete absence of the pericardium. A 17-year-old male was admitted to the hospital for surgical resection of a growing cystic lesion located in the middle mediastinum. The patient was asymptomatic and no significant findings were found on physical examination. Resection of the mediastinal cyst was performed by video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery. Pleuropericardial cysts of the mediastinum are rare lesions, usually congenital but exceptionally acquired. They are often asymptomatic, but complications can occur. We report below the case of a 35-year-old man who presented with an acquired right-sided para-tracheal mesothelial cyst that ruptured into the pericardium and was responsible for clinical tamponade.
