Comparing low-cost monocentric and polycentric prosthetic knees: User satisfaction among persons with unilateral above- and through-knee amputations.

BACKGROUND: The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) developed 2 low-cost prosthetic knees: monocentric (ICRC-MKJ) and polycentric (ICRC-PKJ), both intended solely for above-knee amputees. Independently, Imperial College London designed a low-cost polycentric knee (ICL-PKJ) for both above- and through-knee amputations. Because no affordable through-knee prostheses are currently available, clinics in low-to-middle-income countries often fit the ICRC-MKJ for through-knee amputees, although it is designed exclusively for above-knee amputees. OBJECTIVES: This study assesses user satisf

Within-person dynamics of identity-based discrimination, life satisfaction, self-esteem, and social support among multicultural adolescents in South Korea.

In South Korea, multicultural (damunhwa) adolescents represent a growing population that continues to encounter identity-based discrimination in school and peer contexts. Using six annual waves of data from multicultural adolescents in South Korea (N = 1635; 50.5% girls; ages 10-16), this study employed random-intercept cross-lagged panel models to examine within-person prospective associations among discrimination, life satisfaction, self-esteem, and perceived family, peer, and teacher support. Higher-than-usual life satisfaction predicted lower subsequent perceived discrimination across all

The effect of Dermo and Seal-In X5 prosthetic liners on pressure distributions and reported satisfaction during ramp ambulation in persons with transtibial limb loss.

BACKGROUND: Lower limb amputee's are greatly affected in dealing with the environmental barriers such as ramps and stairs and reported high interface pressure between the residual limb and socket/liner. Interface pressure between the residual limb and socket/liner can affect the satisfaction and use of the prosthesis. Until now, little attention has been paid to interface pressure between socket and stump during ramp negotiation and its effect on amputee's satisfaction. AIM: The aim of this study was to evaluate the interface pressure produced by two different liners (Seal-In X5 and Dermo) be

Person-environment fit in aging in place: A digital support layer and inequalities in environmental satisfaction among urban empty-nest older adults in China.

Population aging and increasing intergenerational residential separation have made aging in place increasingly dependent on how older adults perceive the fit between themselves and their everyday living environments. Drawing on person-environment fit theory, this study situates smart technology within the broader environmental system and defines it as a distinct, independently measurable digital support layer. Using an exploratory sequential mixed-methods design, we examined environmental satisfaction among urban empty-nest older adults in China and identified social, functional, and contextua

"Someone catching me when I'm falling": a qualitative study exploring satisfaction in romantic relationships where one partner has borderline personality disorder.

INTRODUCTION: Interpersonal difficulties are a core challenge experienced by people who have borderline personality disorder (BPD). Relationships where one person has BPD are often rated lower in satisfaction than others due to their tumultuous and unstable nature. Interpersonal difficulties not only cause distress but may also catalyse crises for people with BPD. The ability to sustain emotionally positive attachments is fundamental for recovery in BPD. The aim of this study was to understand how couples, where one partner has BPD, experience their intimate relationships and make sense of the

Mobility, satisfaction with functional capacity and perceived quality of life (PQOL) in older persons with self-reported visual impairment: the pathway between ability to get around and PQOL.

BACKGROUND: Research shows that ability to get around (AGA) is significantly associated with perceived quality of life (PQOL) among older persons with self-reported visual impairment. Much of this impact, however, is through satisfaction with one's functional capacity. Satisfaction with functional capacity is a construct composed of five items: satisfaction with (1) activities of daily living, (2) capacity to work, (3) self, (4) health and (5) sleep. At present, it is not known how AGA interacts individually with these items to influence PQOL. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to investig

Toward personalized sexual medicine (part 2): testosterone combined with a PDE5 inhibitor increases sexual satisfaction in women with HSDD and FSAD, and a low sensitive system for sexual cues.

INTRODUCTION: Low sexual desire in women may result from a relative insensitivity of the brain for sexual cues. Administration of sublingual 0.5 mg testosterone (T) increases the sensitivity of the brain to sexual cues. Sexual stimulation in the brain is necessary for phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor (PDE5i)-mediated increase in genital sexual response. Accordingly, a single dose of T+PDE5i might enhance sexual responsiveness, especially in women with low sensitivity for sexual cues. AIM: To assess the hypothesis that treatment with on-demand use of T+PDE5i improves sexual functioning, part

Toward personalized sexual medicine (part 3): testosterone combined with a Serotonin1A receptor agonist increases sexual satisfaction in women with HSDD and FSAD, and dysfunctional activation of sexual inhibitory mechanisms.

INTRODUCTION: Among other causes, low sexual desire in women may result from dysfunctional activation of sexual inhibition mechanisms during exposure to sex. Administration of sublingual 0.5 mg testosterone (T) increases the sensitivity of the brain to sexual cues, which might amplify sexual inhibitory mechanisms further in women already prone to sexual inhibition. Sexual stimulation might elicit a prefrontal cortex (PFC)-mediated phasic increase in sexual inhibition, in which activity of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT, serotonin) is involved. A single dose of 5-HT receptor agonist (5-HT(1A)ra) mig
