BACKGROUND: A range of psychotherapies are effective in managing an individual's personal reactions to stuttering and reducing the impact stuttering has on their lives. Many of these therapies, such as cognitive behavioural therapy, have their origins in Stoicism, an ancient Greek philosophy founded in 301 bce. Stoicism remains a relatively unexplored topic in the psychotherapy and speech and language therapy literatures.

With a greater understanding of the aging process and relevant anatomy, the facial plastic surgeon has an expansive armamentarium of options for midface rejuvenation. Upon reflection, our practice has evolved over the years and only recently found a select number of interventions that have consistently produced excellent results. In this article, we discuss the steps needed to establish an effective patient relationship, present an algorithm on how to approach midface rejuvenation, describe our surgical technique, and review the attributes and liabilities of each procedure.

Traditional treatment of subcondylar fractures with maxillomandibular fixation often results in a malreduction and significant functional and aesthetic sequelae, including facial asymmetry, decreased jaw opening, and potential for late derangements of the temporomandibular joint. When used selectively, based on preoperative CT scans, the endoscopic technique will reliably restore condylar anatomy in nearly 95% of patients, thus obviating the consequences of malunion. Furthermore, unlike traditional open techniques no significant facial scarring or permanent facial nerve palsies have resulted.

In a recent taxonomy of different philosophies of mind, Robert Lawrence Kuhn classified Rudolf Steiner's view as a mind-body dualism. We argue that this classification is incorrect. Rather, Steiner's view is trinitarian and represents a unification of monism and dualism.
