A method for measuring regional myocardial blood flow with a polarographic hydrogen-clearance technique, and its experimental application in dogs, are described. Under pentobarbitone anaesthesia, flow to the superficial (3 mm) and deep (8 mm) layers of the left ventricle was not significantly different. Neither hypocapnia (PaCO2 = 24 mm Hg) nor halothane significantly altered differential distribution of blood flow to the superficial and deep layers of the myocardium. Estimations of urinary glucose in 178 diabetics using 4 tests, Ketodiastix, Tes-Tape, Clinitest 5/10 and Clinitest 2/10 were compared with polarimetric determinitation. Antioxidant activity (AO) of commercial propolis extracts (PEs), available on Serbian market, was determined by direct current (DC) polarography. Polarographic anodic current of 5.0 mmol L(-1) alkaline solution of H2O2 was recorded at potentials of mercury dissolution. Biochemical results concerning 64 patients suspected of mitochondrial myopathies are presented. Four clinical groups were studied including 21 encephalomyopathies, 42 ocular myopathies, 8 isolated myopathies and 3 cardiomyopathies. For determination of trace Se we used high-pressure wet digester to pretreat the specimens obtained from the human body. This method is very effective in preventing loss of Se by volatilization which often occurs in the sample pretreatment. We studied the method of using anodic stripping voltammetry at gold-disc electrode to measure the trace Se present in the human body and found it to be the optimal procedure. The detection limitation was about 2 x 10(-8) g/L, the recovery rate of Se about 96.6 +/- 6.7% (chi +/- s), and the coefficient of variation CV = 7.0%.

This paper reports the results of oscillopolarographic assay of earlobe blood in 212 patients examined by fibergastroscopy. Polarographic value above 0.081 was regarded as positive. The positive rate was 96.7% in 30 patients with gastric cancer and 100% in 10 with cancer of cardia and 1 with esophageal cancer. The false positive rate was 14.0% in 171 patients with gastric and duodenal diseases. All 72 healthy persons gave the value of less than 0.081. The interaction between molecular oxygen and bile salts, previously observed using chemiluminescence techniques, is studied in this paper by electrochemical techniques to further highlight the nature of the interaction. A shift of half-wave potential of the first polarographic wave for the reduction of molecular oxygen was observed in solutions in the presence of bile salts. A micropolarographic system was used to measure the flux of oxygen crossing the tear-epithelial interface of the human cornea just following stabilization of four lid closure conditions.
