To determine the number and location of antibody binding epitopes on type II collagen, outbred and inbred rats were immunized with chick, bovine, human, and rat type II collagen (CII, BII, HII, and RII); all sera were assayed for reaction with a panel of CB peptides purified and renatured from the immunizing collagen and from RII. Male and female rats of the inbred Piebald Virol Glaxo ( PVG) and Sprague Dawley (SD) strains were infected with 20 metacercariae of Fasciola hepatica. The hepatotoxic effects of carbon disulphide have been examined in rats obtained from a series of crosses between two inbred strains which differ widely in their susceptibility. Histopathological findings and anatomical distribution of histiocytic sarcomas found in an uncommonly high frequency (50 of 399 rats) in the BD II/Han inbred strain are reported.
