[Kinetics of chemoluminiscence of rat intestine during ischemia and reperfusion].

Oxygen free radicals are involved in ischemic and reperfusion tissular injuries. Chemiluminescence of organs reflects the steady state level … 0 min after delegation, but not for longer periods. The administration of a free radical scavenger, thioctic acid 100 mg/kg i.p., prevents or reduces the amount of the overshoot previously described during the 20 min postdelegation follow-up period. These data suggest that excessive oxygen radical generation occurs in vivo during the early minutes of reperfusio …

Synergistic Effect of Anti-Infection, Anti-Inflammatory and Pro-Angiogenic for Novel Nanozyme-Reinforced Supramolecular Hydrogel in Diabetic Wound Healing.

A multifunctional supramolecular hydrogel (TF-MOD) through the synergistic integration of thioctic acid (TA), Fe3+, and MnO2@dopamine (DA) nanozymes was developed for diabetic wounds. The TA-based dynamic disulfide network offered remarkable injectability, tissue adhesion, and controllable degradation. The Fe3+ coordination significantly improved mechanical stability through metal-ligand interactions. The incorporated MnO2@DA nanozymes created a triple therapeutic synergy through cooperative antioxidant effects (MnO2's catalase-like activity, TA's redox activity achieving 92.3% H2O2 clearance)…

Ultra-Trace Electrolyte Additives for Ah-Level Zinc-Ion Batteries Through Lattice-Matching Strategy.

Aqueous zinc ion batteries (AZIBs) represent a highly promising technology; however, practical deployment remains impeded by uncontrolled dendritic growth and side reactions. To address these fundamental limitations, the rational design and synthesis of a novel electrolyte additive is reported here, guided by the lattice matching principle, in which thioctic acid (TA) is covalently grafted onto an Anderson-type polyoxometalate (POM). During electrochemical operation, TA moieties selectively adsorb onto the Zn anode surface and undergo in situ electrochemical polymerization. Due to the Zn-S int…

Photo-Patternable and Healable Polymer Semiconductor Enabled by Dynamic Covalent Disulfide Bonding.

Apart from charge transport property, polymer semiconductors with patternable and healable functions are highly demanding for the fabrication of organic circuits. Herein, by leveraging the dynamic covalent disulfide bonding of thioctic acid (TA) groups, we successfully integrate photo-patterning and thermal-healing capabilities into a single diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP)-based polymer semiconductor for the first time. The results show that the thin film of DPP-based conjugated donor-acceptor polymer with TA groups in the side chains exhibits excellent photo-patterning capability under 365 nm UV l…

Rapid preparation of a bioadhesive with wet adhesion based on supramolecular interactions for wound closure and healing.

Achieving wet adhesion is a fundamental yet challenging requirement for bioadhesives. Poly(α-lipoic acid) (PLA) adhesives derived from the polymerization of α-lipoic acid (LA) have attracted increasing attention in the biomedical field. However, their practical application is hindered by drawbacks such as environmental dependency and prolonged polymerization time. In this study, we report the rapid fabrication of a bulk adhesive, LAS@NP, at room temperature through the supramolecular assembly of LA, Ag+, silk fibroin (SF), and polydopamine nanoparticles containing Ag (PDA/Ag-NP), without the n

Exploring the Role of Alpha Lipoic Acid in the Treatment of Traumatic Brain Injury: Pathways and Perspectives.

BACKGROUND: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is known to be a critical health challenge with a significant number of hospital admissions. In addition to the primary injury and its complications, the secondary phase of the injury also causes numerous health issues. Neuroinflammation, oxidative stress (OS), and neuronal cell death are among the main outcomes of secondary injury. Although so far there are no drugs approved by the Food and Drug Administration for TBI's pharmacological treatment, numerous pharmaceutical compounds have been studied to help patients. Alpha lipoic acid (ALA), as a potent

Lipoic acid - biological activity and therapeutic potential.

α-Lipoic acid (LA; 5-(1,2-dithiolan-3-yl)pentanoic acid) was originally isolated from bovine liver by Reed et al. in 1951. LA was once considered a vitamin. Subsequently, it was found that LA is not a vitamin and is synthesized by plants and animals. LA is covalently bound to the ε-amino group of lysine residues and functions as a cofactor for mitochondrial enzymes by catalyzing the oxidative decarboxylation of pyruvate, α-ketoglutarate and branched-chain α-keto acids. LA and its reduced form - dihydrolipoic acid (DHLA), meet all the criteria for an ideal antioxidant because they can easily qu

Rapidly Gelled Lipoic Acid-Based Supramolecular Hydrogel for 3D Printing of Adhesive Bandage.

Developing a strongly adhesive, easily removable, and robust bandage is valuable in trauma emergencies. Poly(lipoic acid) (PLA)-based adhesives with good mechanical properties have been well-developed through a thermal ring-opening polymerization (ROP) method that is easiness. However, the additive manufacturing of PLA-based adhesives remains a challenge. Herein, α-lipoic acid (LA) and trometamol (Tris) are found to rapidly form a supramolecular hydrogel at room temperature with injectability and 3D printing potential. Meanwhile, the synthesized LA-grafted hyaluronic acid and cellulose nanocry

Neuroprotective role of lipoic acid against acute toxicity of N-acetylaspartic acid.

N-Acetylaspartic acid (NAA) accumulates in Canavan disease, a severe inherited neurometabolic disorder clinically characterized by mental retardation, hypotonia, macrocephaly, and seizures. The mechanisms of brain damage in this disease remain poorly understood. Recent studies developed by our research group showed that NAA induces oxidative stress in vitro and in vivo in cerebral cortex of rats. Lipoic acid is considered as an efficient antioxidant which can easily cross the blood-brain barrier. Considering the absence of specific treatment to Canavan disease, this study evaluates the possibl

Enzymatic Synthesis of a Novel Antioxidant Octacosanol Lipoate and Its Antioxidant Potency in Sunflower Oil.

α-Lipoic acid possesses remarkable antioxidant activity; however, its poor lipid solubility greatly restricts its practical utilization. The present study was the first (i) to synthesize a novel lipophilic antioxidant of octacosanol lipoate and (ii) to assess its antioxidant potency in sunflower oil by hydrogen nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) spectroscopy. In brief, octacosanol lipoate was successfully synthesized using octacosanol and lipoic acid as substrates and Candida sp. 99-125 lipase as a catalyst. The conversion of octacosanol lipoate could reach as high as 98.1% within merely 2 h,
