Tin dioxide nanofibers (SnDNFs) are small fibers that have many applications. Tin dioxide nanofibers can be used in cosmetics, solar cells, toxic gas release sensors, and air pollution control. We report in this paper the preparation and use of stannanes 11, 12a, and 12b, compounds whose 3-pyrenylpropyl side chain affinity for activated carbon simplifies tin removal and product isolation. Our pyrene-supported reagents can be used for radical reductions and cyclizations (11), radical and cationic allylations (12a), and Stille couplings (12b) in much the same way as tributyltin derivatives.

In this contribution we present an account on pentafluoroethylated compounds of silicon, germanium and tin. For a very long time, Ba(16)Ga(32)Sn(104) has been the sole representative of tin clathrates with the type II structure. Herein, we present several new members of this structural family: Cs(8)Ba(16)Ga(39.7(3))Sn(96.3(3)), Rb(9.9(5))Ba(13.3(2))Ga(36.4(3))Sn(99.6(3)), and K(2.0(4))Ba(14.0(4))Ga(30.4(2))Sn(105.6(4)). The successful synthesis of these novel compounds was facilitated through the use of alkali and alkaline-earth metals, which selectively fill the available cages.

Hyperbilirubinemia is a common problem, affecting 45-60 percent of term infants and up to 80 percent of premature neonates. Phototherapy, the standard treatment for neonatal hyperbilirubinemia, is effective but has the potential for adverse effects. The authors studied the disinfecting action of the vapour of tributyltin oxide in the aerosol chamber and came to the conclusion that the tin-organic compounds possessed a wide buicidal action, still inadequately used in practice. The mentioned vapour served as a disinfectant only in the presence of water vapour. Tribytyltin oxide (0.15% concentration) displayed an ovicidal action on the ova of Ascaris suum. Tributyltin laurate produced a good insecticidal effect on Musca domestica.

Existing procedures for the determination of tin in organotin compounds are reviewed, and a new procedure is described which can be used for the rapid microanalysis of most organotin compounds. Wet oxidation with sulphuric acid and 30% hydrogen peroxide is followed by spectrophotometric determination of the extracted ternary tin(IV)-chloride-oxine complex in chloroform. Time for a single determination is 20 min, and the relative standard deviation is 0.7% for 1-5 mg of tin.
