In the literature less than 100 cases of metastatic carcinoma of the palatine tonsil have been reported. Tonsillar metastasis of adenocarcinoma of the oesophagus has not been reported previously. We report a case of a 57-year-old male with a primary adenocarcinoma of the distal esophagus with a metastasis in the right palatine tonsil. Metastatic tumour involving the palatine tonsil is rare. Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumours are aetiologically enigmatic, nosologically confusing and biologically unpredictable lesions. The lungs are the organs of apparent predilection. These tumours have also been documented in a number of extrapulmonary sites including the head and neck. So far only two cases of inflammatory myofibroblastic tumour of the tonsil have been reported in the English literature. We document another case, occurring in a 41-year-old man with history of cadaveric renal transplant nine years ago. A comprehensive review of the literature is also presented.

Assessment of neoplastic lesions situated inside palatinal tonsils and tongue may cause a lot of difficulties. Lymphangiomatous polyps of palatine tonsils are a rare condition, which is diagnosed with patomorphological study. About cases in total are reported in the literature, mostly with one-sided lesions. We managed to find only two reports of lymphangiomatous polyps of palatine tonsils in the available literature. The patients were children in both cases. We report our two cases of children with lymphangiomatous polyps of palatine tonsils.

We present a case of adenomyoepithlioma (AME) arising from the tonsil. AME is an uncommon tumor that typically arises in breast, but rarely found in salivary glands, lung, and skin. Its biological features have not been thoroughly characterized. Here we describe a primary AME originating from the tonsil. The pathologic changes were characterized by hypercellularity, the dominance of both epithelial and myoepithelial cells. Metastatic tumors of the tonsils are rarer than primary tumors. Few cases of metastatic tonsillar tumor have been reported. A 51-year-old man expectorated a portion of a tumor from the left side of the pharynx after an operation for cancer metastatic to the lung. Biopsy revealed that the pharyngeal tumor was rectal cancer (adenocarcinoma) metastatic to the tonsil. To our knowledge, this is the first case of primary rectal cancer metastatic to the tonsil to be reported in Japan. The clinical features of metastatic tonsillar tumor are discussed.

Hyalinizing clear cell carcinoma (HCCC) is a rare neoplasm affecting mainly the minor salivary glands of the oral cavity. We describe an unusual case of HCCC involving the tonsil and its successful management. A 67-year-old Hispanic woman was discovered to have an asymptomatic right tonsillar mass on routine clinic visit that revealed HCCC on biopsy. Lymphoma of the head and neck in children can pose a significant diagnostic problem, especially when histologic analysis indicates non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and the initial site of involvement is extranodal. This report describes 15 pediatric cases of lymphoma seen from 1981 to 1987 with an initial presentation in the head and neck.
