Vertical root fracture (VRF) has been a great challenge in dentistry; most fractures often result in tooth extraction. Inflammation of tissues around the fractured root is the main reason for tooth extraction. Based on the strategic importance of some fractured teeth, treatment may be necessary and often complicated. However, performing a proper repair or even splinting the fractured segments may result in tooth preservation. Accordingly, in this case we report a new method for fractured tooth preservation. The surgical exposition of the fracture tooth was carried out through the radicular por

Welcome preparation (to create space), surgical exposure and attachment to the impacted tooth and the orthodontic guidance for the eruption of the impacted tooth. Sometimes, due to deficiency of space, creation of space for impacted tooth requires first, and space regaining efforts may require the distal movement of posterior teeth and or mesial movement of anterior teeth in the arch, but it may create some problems. To overcome the unwanted problem in this clinical situation and to reduce overall treatment duration of the patient, we have developed the Simultaneous space creation, Eruption an

This article evaluates the long-term clinical performance of porcelain laminate veneers bonded to teeth prepared with the use of an additive mock-up and aesthetic pre-evaluative temporary (APT) technique over a 12-year period. Sixty-six patients were restored with 580 porcelain laminate veneers. The technique, used for diagnosis, esthetic design, tooth preparation, and provisional restoration fabrication, was based on the APT protocol. The influence of several factors on the durability of veneers was analyzed according to pre- and postoperative parameters. With utilization of the APT restorati…

INTRODUCTION: The susceptibility of endodontically treated teeth (ETT) to fracture is mainly associated with the loss of tooth structure. This study evaluated the effect of the access cavity design and taper preparation of root canals on ETT fracture resistance of maxillary molars.
METHODS: For tapering assessment, 30 sound distobuccal roots of maxillary molars were randomly assigned to 1 of 3 groups (n = 10): a .04 taper, a .06 taper, or a .08 taper. Endodontic canal preparations were performed using the Twisted Files rotary system (Kerr Co, Glendora, CA). In addition, 48 intact maxillary fi

Patients are always looking for conservative, esthetic, and long-lasting dental restorations, and the technique used directly influences the longevity of the treatment. The location of the restoration in the mouth and the extent of the decay influence the treatment choice. The larger the dimensions of the cavity preparation, the greater the difficulties in restoring the tooth using direct techniques. The semidirect technique, when indicated, can achieve satisfactory results. It is a relatively easy procedure, consisting of tooth preparation to receive an indirect restoration, fabrication of an…

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: The type of veneer preparation is often chosen according to the patient's tooth structure and occlusion. Taking biomechanics into account in this decision-making process provides the clinician with more technical information on how to improve the clinical longevity of restorations. However, biomechanical analyses of veneer preparation designs are sparse.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this 3-dimensional (3D) finite element analysis with microcomputed tomography (µCT) data obtained from realistic models was to assess the influence of different preparations for ceramic and compos

Many dental practitioners do not use adhesive bridges because of concerns over high failure rates. Techniques for these restorations should be based on the fundamental principles of bridge design which require rigid, accurately fitting frameworks and careful control of the occlusion. The abutments generally require little if any tooth preparation. Greater security will result from more extensive coverage of abutment teeth: the routine use of relative axial tooth movement is a predictable method for creating the space that this approach requires.

This paper discusses whether autogenous tooth transplantation can survive as an option in the future dental armamentaria. Clinically, successful transplants must show a radiolucent space between the roots and surrounding bone. There must be no evidence of ankylosis, no permanent root resorption, and no inflammation. Histologically, the criterion of success is a normal and functional periodontal ligament between the root surfaces of transplants and the bone or gingival connective tissues. Case reports are presented to illustrate replantation or transplantation of teeth. Possible donor teeth are

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to develop a therapeutic agent promoting teeth regeneration from autologous tissues for congenital tooth agenesis, specifically for hypodontia (≤5 missing congenital teeth, 10% prevalence) and oligodontia (≥6 missing congenital teeth, 0.1% prevalence).
HIGHLIGHT: We studied mice genetically deficient in the USAG-1 protein, an antagonist of BMP/Wnt which forms excessive teeth. We identified USAG-1 as a target molecule for increasing the number of teeth. Crossing USAG-1-deficient mice with a congenital tooth agenesis model restored tooth formation. We produced anti-

Tooth autotransplantation requires recipient socket preparation that matches donor root morphology while preserving surrounding bone. We developed an autonomous multi-axis robotic system that executes nonlinear, surface-conforming milling trajectories to create a geometry-matched socket and compared it with a static tooth-supported guide in forty 3D-printed mandibular models representing single-rooted and double-rooted anatomies. Recipient sockets were planned by offsetting the donor root surface by 0.5 mm and eliminating insertion axis undercuts. The robot executed the planned milling path wi

INTRODUCTION: Cavity preparation and direct and indirect pulp capping are difficult processes to learn in dentistry. Although plastic teeth are used in universities in Turkey, the standard model does not teach students how to distinguish between dental hard tissues from caries and how this relates to the pulp. The aim of this study was to investigate the differences in learning when a three-dimensional (3D)-printed tooth was employed in comparison with the standard model and extracted teeth. The differences are evaluated in the design, feasibility, and contribution of the 3D-printed dental too

Tooth autotransplantation is a procedure in which a donor tooth is transplanted within the same patient's jaw to replace a missing tooth. Donor tooth root morphology and periodontal ligament integrity are key factors influencing success. We report a semi-immediate autotransplantation of a maxillary third molar with a 90° divergent root into a site previously affected by a periapical abscess. After the extraction of the compromised tooth (#15) and removal of the interradicular septum, the site was left to heal to allow soft tissue closure and infection resolution. During this period, CBCT imagi

A complex cavity is so named because it results from damage to the enamel-dentin complex, and such cavities can cause patients considerable difficulties in daily life. The reconstruction of damaged areas with synthetic restorative materials requires careful consideration of the unique functional properties of natural enamel and dentin, whose inherent characteristics remain superior to those of any synthetic restorative material currently available. The objective of this article was to organize the available information on indirect adhesive restorations for complex cavities, with particular emp
