Shyphilis is a chronic infectious disease caused by Treponema Pallidum bacteria. Syphilis is most commonly spread through sexual activity, by direct contact with the inoculation point of the spirochete. It has been demonstrated that the desease is more prevalent in men who have sex with men. In primary syphilis, the chancre appears 2-3 weeks after the initial exposure mostly in genitals, but also in oral cavity, pharynx or anus. Secondary syphilis is a systemic disease. This chapter explains the procedure of ethanol-induced ulcer to check the protective effect of drugs over induced ulcer in rats. Ulcer is defined as the erosion in the lining of the stomach or duodenum and is caused by the disruptions of the gastric mucosal defence and repair systems. Ulceration of stomach is called gastric ulcer and that of duodenum is called duodenal ulcer and together peptic ulcer. In clinical practice, peptic ulcer is one of the most prevalent gastrointestinal disorders, which commonly occurs in developed countries.

The authors describe the case of a 39-year-old man who presented to our hospital with easy fatigability and malaise. On physical examination, hypertension was noted without any cushingoid appearance. Laboratory testing revealed normochromic-normocytic anaemia with positive results of occult blood in the stool, hyperglycaemia and hypokalemia. Ulceration of the pars esophagea in swine develops from a complex interaction of dietary particle size, gastric fluidity, dietary carbohydrate content, and presence of certain species of commensal gastric organisms capable of fermenting dietary carbohydrates. Unlike in humans, the significance of the role of Helicobacter sp. in development of porcine gastric ulcers is yet undefined. Management practices that limit the incidence and severity of gastric ulceration without interfering with growth performance appear to be the best option for control.

We present here the first high resolution melt (HRM) assay to quantitatively analyze differences in murine DNA methylation levels utilizing CpG methylation of Long Interspersed Elements-1 (LINE1 or L1). By calculating the integral difference in melt temperature between samples and a methylated control, and biasing PCR primers for unmethylated CpGs, the assay demonstrates enhanced sensitivity to detect changes in methylation in a cell line treated with low doses of 5-aza-2'-deoxycytidine (5-aza). As in previous years, developments in the field of ulcers and gastritis have been dominated by new findings related to Helicobacter pylori. With the decrease in the frequency of H. pylori infection, the relative proportion of non-H. pylori ulcers has increased.
