INTRODUCTION: Representation of diverse populations within orthopaedic surgery lags behind other specialties. Underrepresented minority orthopaedic surgeons report workplace discrimination based on race and sexual orientation; however, the influence of intersecting underrepresented minority identities on the risk of experiencing sexual harassment during residency training remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to determine the proportion of orthopaedic surgeons with sexual and gender minority identities who experience sexual harassment during training and report their experiences.

The current state of diversity within the US medical workforce does not reflect representative numbers of the Black male population. Research data continues to reveal continuing trends in the areas of discrimination, incarceration, health disparities, and mortality with respect to Black males. The lack of increase in Black male medical school applications and matriculation contrasted by the continuing trends mentioned above illustrates that there is in fact an American crisis. We present here a call to arms, to address the need of African-American men in medicine. The absence of Black males in

Tennessee's ecological diversity, spanning forests, farmland, and urban areas, provides an ideal foundation for applying the One Health approach, which integrates human, animal, and environmental health. This review examines Tennessee's current One Health landscape, highlighting active initiatives, ongoing challenges, and future directions. Key efforts involve workforce development, disease surveillance, outbreak response, environmental conservation, and public education, led by a coalition of state agencies, universities, and the Tennessee One Health Committee. These programs promote cross-se

Systemic sources of the gender health innovation gap include inattention to the effects of sex and gender on health, underinvestment in health conditions relevant to or limited to women, workforce diversity inequities, and societal attitudes. The US federal government instituted policies and programs to address these challenges and demonstrate commitment to closing this gap with the development of the first National Strategy on Gender Equity and Equality.

To create and sustain a thriving physician workforce capable of providing the highest quality medical care to the U.S. population, educational and health care institutions must transform narratives about disability and eliminate structural ableism from their policies and practices. By creating inclusive educational and health care environments that welcome and support people with disabilities in medicine, these institutions can improve learning and workplace experiences for all students and physicians, ultimately improving patient care. To do so will require reframing the concept of disability

BACKGROUND: While studies confirm high prevalence of language disorder among justice-involved young people, little is known about the impact of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) on language among this population. It is also not clear how language skills vary according to language diversity in Australian youth justice settings, where a disproportionate number of justice-involved youth are Aboriginal and may not speak Standard Australian English (SAE) as their first language. Language skills are important to understand, as language disorder and language difference can lead to a mismatch bet

Healthcare resources are stretched perilously thin and the demand for primary healthcare services has never been greater. Despite this demand for service, relatively little is known about the practice environment of primary healthcare providers, particularly certified nurse-midwives (CNMs), where workforce surveys frequently include these specialists within the broader nurse practitioner category. A distinct professional discipline, nurse-midwives are one type of primary care provider recommended to enhance access to services. The objective of this study was to understand the nature of the nur

Significant racial/ethnic disparities in dermatologic care and their subsequent impact on dermatologic conditions were recently reported. Contributing factors include socioeconomic factors, gaps in educational exposure, and underrepresentation of minority groups in the dermatologic workforce. In 2021, the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) announced its three-year plan to expand diversity, equity, and inclusion in dermatology. One way to reduce disparities in dermatology is for every dermatologist, regardless of race or ethnicity, to receive adequate education in diseases, treatments, healt

INTRODUCTION: Oral health policies to mitigate the global burden of noncommunicable disease typically advocate for effective workforce policies. However, actions on oral healthcare are often unclear and disengaged from other health policies.
OBJECTIVES: This review investigates evidence of the oral health workforce, identifies challenges, possible solutions, and calls for a reformation to mitigate the burden of oral diseases.
DATA SOURCES AND SELECTION: International reports and related literature were searched and reviewed using a realistic approach focused on the global oral and general he

An amicus curia, translated from the Latin means 'friend of the court', is a brief submitted to the court by an individual or interest groups who are not party to a court ruling, but have a strong interest in the matter under consideration by the court. This article represents such an endeavor as it relates to the recent Supreme Court decision barring the use of race-conscious admissions in colleges and universities. Though much has changed since this article was submitted, the thesis of this paper remains relevant: that, like military academies, health profession schools should be allowed to

In the Unified Health System (SUS), one of the central challenges for workforce planning is adapting to the growing demands of public health. State Health Plans (PES) are management and social control instruments that define the guidelines and priority actions of the states, including those perspectives on work management, the focus of this present study. 22 PES were analyzed for the four-year period 2024-2027, considering three axes: Health Work Regulation; Valuing health work; and, Workforce Planning. The results highlight the diversity of proposed actions, such as the creation of job, caree

There is increasing evidence of racial and ethnic disparities in the evaluation and treatment of people with psoriasis (PsO) and psoriatic arthritis, and inadequate racial/ethnic diversity in psoriatic disease (PsD) research. At the Group for Research and Assessment of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis (GRAPPA) 2021 annual meeting, a program focusing on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) was presented to highlight known health and healthcare disparities in PsD. There is limited understanding of the prevalence and severity of PsD and how it affects quality of life among racial/ethnic minori

Healthcare systems continue to face significant workforce challenges that threaten staff well-being, retention, and quality of care. Workforce wellness is increasingly recognized as essential to sustaining a stable and engaged healthcare workforce, yet it is frequently addressed as an individual concern rather than as an organizational, relational, and system-level phenomenon. A qualitative descriptive design with complementary arts-informed engagement examined how staff experience workforce wellness and how organizational environments shape well-being within a Canadian healthcare organization

BACKGROUND: The incidence of occupational falls in Japan increased 9% over the past decade from 2014 to 2021. Occupational falls are increasing in aging workforces; however, surveillance systems rely largely on crude incidence rates that do not account for demographic changes over time. We estimated age standardized and age-sex standardized incidence rates of occupational falls in Japan, and examined temporal trends across industries from 2014 to 2021.
METHODS: We conducted a population-based study using nationwide administrative data. Incident cases of occupational falls were obtained from t

The academic successes of AM during the past 2 decades are marked by board certification, fellowship program accreditation, residency curricula creation, and the evolution of a remarkably respected scientific journal, the Journal of Adolescent Health. These same accomplishments have increased professional and public recognition of unmet population needs and the specialists who can help address them. The adolescent population is large, diverse, underserved, and characterized by increasingly complex medical and behavioral issues. Meeting their health care needs is a national priority. Primary ca
