Mangosteen peel, rich in polyphenolic compounds, was used to prepare the adsorbent exhibiting highly selective adsorption for Cr(VI) over other metal ions such as Pb(2+), Fe(3+), Zn(2+), Cd(2+), and Cr(3+) at the pH values of 1∼4.
