From 1967 to 1973 serum samples of 1709 infertile women were tested for antispermatozoal antibodies with the gelatin agglutination test. In 110 cases sperm agglutinins were demonstrated in titers ranging from 4 to 1024. The clinical data of 99 couples were evaluable, and in 65 there appeared to be unexplained infertility. Out of these 65 women, 44 became pregnant in the posttesting follow-up period of 6 to 13.5 years (median, 10 years). Neurobrucellosis is one of the complications of brucellosis. We report a rare case of a 17-year-old girl with seronegative neurobrucellosis and depression and diplopia. Results of agglutination tests for Brucella both in serum and CSF were negative. Diagnosis was made only by positive culture of Brucella mellitensis with inoculation of the patient's cerebrospinal fluid in a BACTEC 9050 System. The patient was successfully treated using ceftriaxone, doxycycline and rifampicin therapy for six months.

In two cats, a Persian and a D.S.H. cat, cutaneous Cryptococcosis is described. No signs of involvement of other organ systems nor underlying causes were established. One cat seemed refractory to ketoconazole-therapy. In both cats the skin lesions disappeared within 2-3 months itraconazole treatment. Latex agglutination tests against Cryptococci capsula antigen were performed and stayed longtime elevated while clinical lesions were not present anymore. The test may give an indication about prognosis.

Ocular cysticercosis does not usually present with signs of systemic involvement. Stool examination and eosinophil count are invariably negative, but computed tomography and agglutination tests are more commonly positive. This condition is more common in the vitreous cavity where it may cause diagnostic problems. Removal of the cyst is a standardised procedure, but the prognosis is poor because of severe ocular reaction to the cysts. Prevention of cysticercus infection is very important.

Pigs which develop parakeratosis acquire increased alpha antitoxin values in blood serum. The determination of the occurrence of alpha antitoxin in serum has confirmed earlier results concerning the presence of antibodies against intestinal Clostridium perfringens and has, furthermore, — from a methodological point of view — given more clear cut results than the agglutination and precipitation tests. The observation that even at the beginning of the experiment all the pigs showed alpha antitoxin in serum is discussed.

A simple one-step ELISA to detect anti-CMV antibodies was developed. We investigated the mechanism of hemolytic anemia detected in a repeated-dose toxicity study using cynomolgus monkeys that were treated with a humanized antibody drug. This drug was an IgG1 monoclonal antibody (MoAb) that binds to the human HM1.24 antigen named anti-HM1.24 MoAb. The presence of the HM1.24 antigen on the erythrocyte membranes and the erythrocyte agglutination following the addition of anti-HM1.24 MoAb was examined. In addition, an indirect Coombs' test, a hemolysis assay and the measurement of anti-single stranded-DNA antibodies were performed using test animal serum or plasma.

A prospective study was carried out to elucidate the clinical, epidemiological and laboratory features of human brucellosis. A total of 26 948 blood samples (from adults aged 15 years and above) were screened for serological evidence of brucellosis over a period of 16 years.
