In order to evaluate the principal characteristics of the intestinal amoebiasis in the north of Tunisia, one retrospective study review all cases diagnosed in principal gastroenterologic sections of the hospitals of Tunis. Twenty height cases of intestinal amoebiasis, 10 of which have an inflammatory bowel disease associated were included. Watery stools containing blood and mucus were the most important symptoms (25 cases). The endoscopic exam showed for all the cases non specific lesions. Hepatic amebiasis is common in tropical zones. Solitary abscess is the classical form but multinodular presentation does not rule out amebiasis as the underlying cause. Definitive diagnosis cannot be based on clinical and radiologic findings alone. Serological testing for amebiasis is necessary. In zones where serology is unavailable, response to presumptive metronidazole treatment is still a useful for diagnosis.

Most cases of cytomegalovirus colitis occur in adults with severe immune deficiency. Only a few cases involving immunocompetent patients have been reported. We describe the first case reported in English, of cytomegalovirus colitis in an immunocompetent patient with preceding amebiasis. Eight previous cases have been reported of cytomegalovirus colitis occurring after colonic mucosal injury in immunocompetent patients. Strongyloides stercoralis (SS) is an intestinal nematode that is mainly endemic in tropical and subtropical regions and sporadic in temperate zones. The diagnosis of hepatic amoebiasis is not always easy. In case of suspicion of hepatic amoebiasis in an endemic area, the patient is immediately treated with a 5-nitroimidazole. Immunological diagnosis is indispensable. After a comparative study of BLA, IHA and IFA reactions, the BLA test has shown to be well adapted to the context of a country with insufficient sanitary infrastructure. The BLA test is easily performed and enables rapid detection of antibodies. The result obtained in about 5 minutes allows to adjust the therapeutic conduct.
