INTRODUCTION: Sternoclavicular infections are unusual, and it even more unusual for infection to occur here as a primary site.
CASE REPORT: We report the case of a 53-year-old patient with no prior medical history or risk factor who consulted because of sternal swelling of inflammatory character. CT-scan, bacteriological and histological analysis of samples concluded the diagnosis of primary sternoclavicular staphylococcal septic arthritis. Management consisted of antibiotics and was associated with a flattening of the lesion. The outcome at 6 months was favorable.

Systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (sJIA) sets well apart from all the other forms of JIA. Several observations show that sJIA is etiopathogenically different from all the other forms of JIA and has a prominent autoinflammatory component. A major role in the pathogenesis is played by two proinflammatory cytokines, interleukin-6 and interleukin-1. The specific inhibition of these two cytokines is going to change not only the therapeutic approach to the disease but also, presumably, its long term prognosis.

Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most important pathogens in septic arthritis. To analyse the arthritogenic properties of staphylococcal peptidoglycan (PGN), highly purified PGN from S. aureus was intra-articularly injected into murine joints. A 49-year-old man presented a clinical picture suggesting seronegative rheumatoid arthritis. He developed severe joint contractions, pasty synovial swelling, macroglossia and proteinurie.
