The bacteriology of acute pneumonia and meningitis in children in Papua New Guinea: assumptions, facts and technical strategies.

Acute respiratory infections in children aged less than 5 years in the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea were investigated bacteriologic … romycin, tetracycline or cotrimoxazole. It should not be assumed that the technology of respiratory bacteriology as it is practised in developed countries can be transferred to the third world for utilization in paediatric aetiology and carriage studies. Respiratory bacteriology strategies as they evolved in Goroka were subject to diverse influences. The type …

Use of bacteriology in anorectal sepsis as an indicator of anal fistula: experience in a distinct general hospital.

The bacteriology of anorectal sepsis in a district general hospital has been reviewed to see whether the information gained helped patient management. Forty-six patients with anorectal sepsis were reviewed, underlying fistulas were identified in nine patients (19.5%). Bacteroides species were not routinely subtyped in the department. It was found that isolation of unspecified Bacteroides species was not helpful in identifying those patients with underlying fistulas. Unless subtyping of Bacteroides species is specifically requested, pus from anorectal sepsis should not routinely be sent for bac…

Pathological, Immunohistochemical, and Bacteriological Characterization of Salmonellosis in Bearded Dragons (Pogona vitticeps).

Salmonella spp. is a major zoonotic pathogen. Although reptiles are mostly considered subclinical carriers, clinical disease may develop following immunosuppression. Clinical salmonellosis in reptiles has been extensively reported; however, the condition has been rarely described in bearded dragons (Pogona vitticeps). We retrospectively analyzed six cases of salmonellosis in bearded dragons and characterized the pathological, immunohistochemical, and bacteriological findings. Clinical signs and gross findings were mostly non-specific. Histological findings mainly consisted of fibrinonecrotizin

[Are bacteriological and pathomorphological signs of bacterial prostatitis related between? (An experimental study)].

INTRODUCTION: In some cases, there is a dissociation between the severity of complaints, physical examination data, and levels of contamination of the biomaterial in the differential diagnosis of various categories of prostatitis (NIH-NIDDK, 1995). Patients note the presence of pronounced symptoms when verifying the threshold indicators of microbial load (104-105 CFU / ml) of prostate secretion or post-massage urine in a few observations. However, clinical manifestations and deviations in objective indicators are not so significant in some patients with higher titers of contamination. PURPOSE

The Bacteriological Profile of Burn Wound Infections at a Tertiary Burns Center in Nepal.

In Nepal, burn is the third most common injury after falls and road traffic accidents. Infection is the leading cause of mortality in burn injury. A profile exploring predominant flora and antimicrobial sensitivity is important to facilitate treatment ahead of microbiology results and to aid prevention of multidrug-resistant organisms. The aim of this study was to document epidemiological and bacteriological data of burn wound infections at a tertiary level burns center in Nepal. Samples were collected from January 2017 to May 2017, over a period of 5 months. Patient notes were referred to and

[Is bacteriological testing of bladder urine informative in acute obstructive pyelo- nephritis?].

UNLABELLED: The problem of the etiology and pathogenesis of acute obstructive pyelonephritis (OOP) remains one of the challenging issues of modern urology. Etiological agents of pyelonephritis can be both gram-negative and gram-positive opportunistic bacteria mostly belonging to the normal flora in humans. The generally accepted diagnostic work-up involves a bacteriological testing of not pelvic urine, but of bladder urine collected by a transurethral catheter or midstream specimens of urine collected from the patients. The aim of our study was to compare the microbiota of bladder and pelvic u

Clinicohistopathological concordance in leprosy - a clinical, histopathological and bacteriological study of 100 cases.

Leprosy is a treatable chronic infectious disease, prevalent in South Asian countries, especially India. Before labeling a patient as a case of leprosy and starting multidrug treatment for particular type, the clinical findings should be correlated and confirmed with histopathological examination and bacteriological index of skin biopsy. Skin biopsy is an important tool in diagnosing leprosy and determining the type of leprosy. In the present study, one hundred untreated clinically diagnosed cases of leprosy were studied according to Ridley-Jopling scale for confirmation of diagnosis and class

[The Lady Windermere syndrome: clinical and bacteriological data and progress in seven cases].

Described by Reich and Johnson in 1992 [2], the Lady Windermere syndrome occurs exclusively in non-smoking women over the age of 60 years, without significant pre-existing pulmonary disease. It comprises bronchial dilatation, typically in the middle lobe and lingula, together with secondary infection by atypical mycobacteria (Mycobacterium avium in the first cases). Among the 17 cases of atypical mycobacterial infection that we have seen in the past 14 years, there were seven cases of this syndrome. It was associated with cough, sputum, sometimes haemoptysis, febrile episodes and deterioration
