Report of a 5 year old Yugoslav girl with xeroderma pigmentosum. This disease was associated with ophthalmological symptoms such as photophobia, blepharospasm and a tumor of the cornea. Based on this case the ocular abnormalities in xeroderma pigmentosum are reviewed in the literature.

Purified botulinum A exotoxin was used to treat 9 adults with strabismus, 22 adults with incapacitating essential blepharospasm and 1 adult with "senile" spastic lower-eyelid entropion. This short paper presents an approach to management of facial tics, which are rare in adults. Facial tics are usually progressive. If bilateral, the condition is usually 'benign essential blepharospasm'. If unilateral they are usually due to hemifacial spasm.

As more countries consider bills that would legalize adult use of cannabis, health care providers, including eye care professionals (ophthalmologists, optometrists), will need to recognize ocular effects of cannabis consumption in patients. We report the results of botulinum toxin type A (Dysport, Porton Products, UK) treatment over 5 years in 107 patients with blepharospasm, Meige's syndrome, oromandibular dystonia, hemifacial spasm, cervical dystonia, and writer's cramp. We investigated the prevalence of dystonia in Akita Prefecture (population was 1,166,967 as of 1 November 2004). The prevalence of primary generalized and focal dystonia is estimated to be 0.68 and 14.4 per 100,000 persons, respectively. Blepharospasm is the most common primary dystonia in this area.
