This work was designed to investigate the sorption equilibrium and kinetics of modified kaolinites of different structural order toward Cr(VI). The key reaction of modification involved an iodomethane quaternization of the mineral previously interlayer grafted with triethanolamine. This induced positively charged centers (PCNs) associated with nitrogens of ammonium salt molecules formed in the interlayer space. This study describes biosorption of chromium (VI) by immobilized Spirulina platensis, in calcium alginate beads. Three aspects viz. optimization of bead parameters, equilibrium conditions and packed column operation were studied and subsequently modeled. The syntheses of haterumalides NA and NC were accomplished via the macrocyclization of a chlorovinylidene chromium carbenoid onto a pendant aldehyde to generate the C8-C9 bond with the desired stereoisomer as the major product. The skin cancer enhancing effect of chromium (in male mice) and nickel in UVR-irradiated female Skh1 mice was investigated. The dietary vitamin E and selenomethionine were tested for prevention of chromium-enhanced skin carcinogenesis.
