BACKGROUND: The Aim to Decrease Anxiety and Pain Treatment (ADAPT) is a blended, digital, and live cognitive behavioral therapy program for children with functional abdominal pain disorder (FAPDs) and anxiety. Initially developed and evaluated in US pediatric gastroenterology settings, a culturally refined version was developed in Swedish, for potential use within community-based pediatric health care settings.
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate a modified version of ADAPT as an early intervention for FAPD within a community-based pediatric setting in Sweden, exploring both the potential…

BACKGROUND: Menopausal women with diabetes frequently experience comorbid anxiety, which complicates both metabolic and psychological management. Integrated interventions combining cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), diabetes education, and pharmacotherapy may offer comprehensive benefits, yet evidence remains limited.
METHODOLOGY: A retrospective study was conducted among menopausal women with diabetes and anxiety. Participants were categorized into three groups: CBT + education + pharmacotherapy, education only, and medications only. Clinical, demographic, and psychological data were analyz…

Gender differences in individuals at risk mental state (ARMS) highlight the need for mental health service tailored to gender-specific needs. While Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is recognized as an effective intervention for psychotic disorders and ARMS, research on gender-specific CBT for ARMS is limited. This study compares the effects of group CBT with psychoeducation on functional and symptomatic outcomes, and the likelihood of transition to psychosis, in women with ARMS. One hundred and Seventy-eight women with ARMS were recruited and randomly assigned to either women-specific group …

INTRODUCTION: Interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) is a debilitating urologic chronic pelvic pain condition characterized by pelvic pain and urinary symptoms. Evidence suggests that in chronic pain conditions such as IC/BPS, inflammatory markers are associated with heightened symptom severity and widespread pain. Non-pharmacological treatments such as cognitive-behavioral therapy are recommended as a core component of IC/BPS treatment. There is limited and mixed evidence as to whether inflammatory markers are affected by non-pharmacological treatments or their relationship to t

BACKGROUND: Internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and stand-alone mindfulness meditation interventions are gaining empirical support for a wide variety of mental health conditions. In this study, we test the efficacy of web-based therapist-guided mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT-M) for body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), a psychiatric disorder characterized by preoccupations with perceived defects in appearance.
OBJECTIVE: This study aims to determine whether CBT-M for BDD delivered on the web is feasible and acceptable and whether mindfulness meditation adds to CBT…

BACKGROUND: The global prevalence of depression and anxiety disorders underscores the need for a more profound comprehension of effective treatments. Mindfulness has shown promise in enhancing treatment outcomes and preventing relapse in these conditions, but the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood.
METHODS: This study examined the role of emotion regulation as a mediator in the relationship between changes in mindfulness and the reduction of depression and anxiety symptoms during individual cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). We tracked longitudinal changes in mindfulness, emotion

BACKGROUND: Dental phobia (DP) and injection phobia (IP) are common in children and adolescents and are considered some of the biggest obstacles to successful treatment in pediatric dentistry. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based treatment for anxiety and phobias. As the availability of CBT in dentistry is low, internet-based CBT (ICBT) was developed. Open trials have shown that ICBT is a promising intervention, but randomized trials are lacking.
OBJECTIVE: This randomized controlled trial tests whether therapist-guided ICBT supported by a parent could reduce fear, allowing…

BACKGROUND: Social anxious individuals show attention bias towards emotional stimuli, this phenomenon is considered to be an important cause of anxiety generation and maintenance. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is a standard psychotherapy for social anxiety disorder. CBT decreases attention biases by correcting the maladaptive beliefs of socially anxious individuals, but it is not clear whether CBT alters neurophysiological features of socially anxious individuals at early automatic and/or late cognitive strategy stage of attentional processing.
METHOD: To address this knowledge gap, we c

BACKGROUND: Because pediatric anxiety disorders precede the onset of many other problems, successful prediction of response to the first-line treatment, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), could have major impact. However, existing clinical models are weakly predictive. The current study evaluates whether structural and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging can predict post-CBT anxiety symptoms.
METHODS: Two datasets were studied: (A) one consisted of n=54 subjects with an anxiety diagnosis, who received 12 weeks of CBT, and (B) one consisted of n=15 subjects treated for 8 weeks

Long-term follow-up data from trials of digital mental health interventions are rare. This study reports 2-year follow-up data from a non-inferiority trial (N = 152) comparing stepped-care (internet-delivered cognitive behavioral therapy [CBT] followed by traditional in-person CBT if needed) vs in-person CBT for pediatric obsessive-compulsive disorder. Both treatment groups had comparable long-term effects, with the majority of participants being responders (stepped-care 66 %; in-person CBT 71 %) 2 years after the end of treatment.

During the COVID-19 epidemic, face-to-face mental health services faced obstacles. Using Internet-based interventions was a good solution and had the potential to overcome these treatment barriers. However, there is no strong research evidence about the effectiveness of these methods for social anxiety disorder in different cultures and developing countries. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness and application of Internet-based cognitive-behavioral therapy for social anxiety disorder in Iran. The current study was a pretest-posttest follow-up experimental design.

UNLABELLED: Few studies have compared the effectiveness of internet-based cognitive behavior therapy (ICBT) for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) with treatment as usual (TAU). We investigated the effectiveness of guided ICBT for patients with OCD. This prospective, randomized, controlled, assessor-blinded, multicenter clinical trial was conducted at three facilities in Japan from January 2020 to March 2021. Thirty-one patients with OCD as the primary diagnosis participated in the trial and were randomly assigned to either the intervention group or the control group. The primary outcome was

BACKGROUND: The therapeutic alliance has been recognized as one of the most researched key elements of treatment across different therapeutic approaches and diagnostic domains. Despite its importance, our current understanding of its clinical relevance in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is still debated. This study aimed to examine empirical evidence on the effect of alliance on treatment outcomes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in patients with OCD in a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is effective for refractory obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Post-operative cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) may augment the effects of DBS, but previous results are conflicting. Here, we investigated whether CBT augments the effect of DBS for OCD.
METHOD: Patients with and without CBT following DBS of the ventral anterior limb of the internal capsule were included. First, we analyzed Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS) and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D) scores before, during and after CBT in all patients with CBT. Second, we…
