The prevalence of primary dystonia was assessed in a random population sample of individuals aged 50 and over in Bruneck, South Tyrol. The diagnosis of primary dystonia was confirmed by videotaped review. Primary dystonia was present in 6 of 707 cases resulting in a prevalence rate of 732 per 100,000 (95% CI 319-1,564) in the general population aged 50 and over. Only two cases (33%) had been previously diagnosed. These results indicate that the true prevalence of primary dystonia is significantly higher than published rates.

This retrospective study describes the demographic profiles, types of injuries and characteristics of abusers of 1354 women and children survivors of domestic violence who sought medical care from the obstetrics and gynecology resident and attending staff in the Women and Children Protection Unit in Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center from 1 January 1997 to 31 December 1998. OBJECTIVE: To examine the use of prescribed stimulants in relation to research diagnoses of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in a community sample of children.
METHOD: Data from 4 annual waves of interviews with 9- to 16-year-olds from the Great Smoky Mountains Study were analyzed.
RESULTS: Over a 4-year period, almost three quarters of children with an unequivocal diagnosis of ADHD received stimulant medications. One of the options for treating localized carcinoma of the prostate includes the implantation of radioactive seeds under ultrasound guidance (brachytherapy). Community-acquired Acinetobacter meningitis in adults is an extremely rare infection of the central nervous system (CNS). Here we report one adult case of this rare CNS infection and review the clinical data of another seven cases reported in the English language literature. There are few data on the clinical features of dysthymia among the community-dwelling elderly. Forty elderly individuals with dysthymic disorder were identified following screening in the community with GMS-AGECAT. A detailed clinical history was obtained and DSM-IV checklists and standardized scales were used, at a second interview.
