Tonsillitis is a frequent infection. Most of cases are viral and require only symptomatic treatment. Tonsillitis due to Corynebacterium diphteriae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Fusospirochetosis require specific treatment. Antibiotic treatment of streptococcal tonsillitis is needed to avoid suppurative and non suppurative complications such as rhumatoid fever.

Trichobacteriosis (trichomycosis) is an asymptomatic infection at the axillary hair level caused by a bacterium of Corynebacterium spp. The aim of this study is to identify the clinical, epidemiological, and microbiological characteristics of previously reported cases. A review was conducted including the cases of trichomycosis (trichobacteriosis) reported in the PubMed database up to June 2023. Twenty-nine articles were included, involving 365 patients in total. This case discusses a 73-year-old male who presented to the emergency department with fever, diarrhea, weakness, and altered mental status. Initial blood cultures grew Corynebacterium; however, cultures were later corrected to Listeria monocytogenes.
