Computational studies on nitratoethylnitramine (NENA), its tautomers and charged forms.

An energetic material, nitratoethylnitramine (NENA), its tautomers and also its charged forms are considered quantum chemically, using various basis sets at the levels of ab initio and density functional theories (DFT). NENA has been found to be sensitive to negative charge development, resulting in rupture of ONO(2) bond. Also conformational and molecular dynamics (MD) studies have been performed on NENA. Various geometrical parameters, energies and infrared spectra have been obtained and discussed. Also, calculations indicate that s-cis conformation of NENA is slightly more stable than the s

Mode-specific energy absorption by solvent molecules during CO2 vibrational cooling.

Non-equilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) simulations of energy transfer from vibrationally excited CO(2) to CCl(4) and CH(2)Cl(2) solvent molecules are performed to identify the efficiency of different energy pathways into the solvent bath. Studying in detail the work performed by the vibrationally excited solute on the different solvent degrees of freedom, it is shown that vibration-to-vibration (V-V) processes are strongly dominant and controlled by those accepting modes which are close in frequency to the CO(2) bend and symmetric stretch vibration.

[Exposure to ionizing radiation decreases hemoglobin binding to erythrocyte membrane].

The influence of gamma-radiation at doses 10, 10(2) and 10(3) Gy on binding of hemoglobin to the erythrocyte membrane by inductive--resonance energy transfer in the donor-acceptor pair anthracene-hemoglobin was studied. It was found that binding of hemoglobin to the erythrocyte membrane decreases with increasing dose of gamma-radiation.

Review: proximity effects in the production of chromosome aberrations by ionizing radiation.

After ionizing radiation has induced double-strand DNA breaks (dsb), misrejoining produces chromosome aberrations. Aberration yields are influenced by "proximity' effects, i.e., by the dependence of misrejoining probabilities on initial dsb separations. We survey proximity effects, emphasizing implications for chromosome aberration-formation mechanisms, for chromatin geometry, and for dose-response relations. Evidence for proximity effects comes from observed biases for centric rings and against three-way interchanges, relative to dicentrics or translocations. Other evidence comes from the way

[Fast repair in diploid yeast cells after combined exposure to ionizing radiation with different LET].

Fast repair in diploid yeast cells Saccharomyces cerevisiae XS800 exposed to the combined irradiation (alpha-particles + high-velocity electrons) was studied. It has been shown that fast repair was significantly more effective after combined irradiation with high doses than after exposure to high-velocity electrons or alpha-particles alone. The regions of radioresistance in the cell survival curves after combined irradiation can be explained by fast post-irradiation repair.

Specific absorption rate in rats exposed to 2,450-MHz microwaves under seven exposure conditions.

Both positive and negative biological effects of microwaves on drug actions in rats exposed to 1-mW/cm2, 2,450-MHz microwaves have been reported by several investigators. We conducted dosimetry studies for seven different exposure conditions to determine whether these different results could be due to the rats having been exposed differently. They included anterior and posterior exposures in a circular waveguide, near field, far field with E- or H-field parallel to the long axis of the body and dorsal exposure in a miniature anechoic chamber with E- or H-field parallel to the long axis of the

Engineering Metallenes Integrated with Ti3C2Tx MXene 2D/2D Heterointerfaces for Boosted Charge Storage Performance.

Two-dimensional (2D) materials have emerged as compelling candidates for next-generation energy storage systems owing to their high surface area, tunable chemistry, quantum confinement, and rapid charge-transfer properties. In this work, we report the synthesis of ultrathin MoBi metallene (MoBiene) via liquid-phase exfoliation and their subsequent integration with delaminated Ti3C2Tx MXene to construct a robust 2D/2D hybrid electrode. The heterointerfaces of Metallene into MXene frameworks effectively mitigates nanosheet restacking, enhances electrical conductivity, and increases the density o

Interfacial Engineering of Iodine-Polymer-Carbon Hybrid Cathodes for High-Energy Zn//I2 Microbatteries.

Miniaturized energy-storage devices with high energy density, fast charge-storage kinetics, and long-term durability are essential for next-generation on-chip electronics. Among various candidates, zinc-iodine (Zn//I2) microbatteries (MBs) are attractive owing to their intrinsic safety, low cost, and rapid iodine redox chemistry. Herein, a printed coplanar Zn//I2 MB is developed using a cathode-confined iodine strategy, in which redox-active iodine is immobilized within a rationally engineered polyaniline (PANI) and activated-carbon (AC) (I2@AC-PANI) composite cathode framework. The synergisti

Toward a Low-Energy Direct-Air Capture Cycle by Reversible Proton-Intercalation-Mediated Alkalization.

Mitigation strategies to avoid climate change impacts rely on direct-air capture (DAC) of CO2. We demonstrate absorption of CO2 at 400 ppm and its desorption by using solid proton-intercalation electrodes to swing the pH of an alkaline electrolyte. 1.76 ± 0.16 GJ tonne-1 of electrical energy is used when enriching CO2 2-fold, extrapolating to 25.3 ± 0.16 GJ tonne-1 to include water condensation and compression energy. 20-fold enrichment requires 5.81 ± 2.42 GJ tonne-1 of electrical energy, extrapolating to 7.81 ± 2.42 GJ tonne-1. Here, symmetric potassium-stabilized α-phase manganese dioxide e

A FTO/MXene@PdTe2@TiO2//PANI composite for the development of light-responsive electrodes for solar-integrated hybrid supercapacitors.

The development of multifunctional electrodes capable of simultaneously harvesting solar energy and storing electrical charge is highly attractive for next-generation self-powered energy systems. Herein, we introduce a ternary MXene@PdTe2@TiO2 heterostructure as a multifunctional photo-electrochemical electrode, in which highly conductive MXene, broadband photoresponsive PdTe2, and semiconducting TiO2 are synergistically integrated to couple solar-energy harvesting with electrochemical charge storage. The distinctive ternary architecture promotes interfacial charge separation and transfer, fac

Spiro rhodamine-coumarin compact electron donor-acceptor dyads: synthesis and spin-orbit charge transfer intersystem crossing.

We prepared spiro rhodamine (RB)-coumarin (Cou) compact electron donor-acceptor dyads (RB-Cou-CF3 and RB-Cou-CN), to study the charge transfer (CT) and spin-orbit CT intersystem crossing (SOCT-ISC). The π-conjugation planes of the rhodamine and coumarin units in both dyads are in nearly orthogonal geometry (dihedral angle: 86.3°). CT state emission was observed for RB-Cou-CF3 (at 550 nm) and RB-Cou-CN (at 595 nm). Although the fluorescence of the pristine coumarin units (fluorescence quantum yields ΦF = 59%) was quenched in the dyads (ΦF = 0.5 ~ 1.1% in n-hexane), the triplet state quantum yie

Which molecules for photoinduced symmetry-breaking charge separation? A thermodynamic perspective.

Photoinduced symmetry-breaking charge separation (SB-CS) is an electron-transfer between two identical molecules (M) following photoexcitation of one of them (M* + M → M˙+ + M˙-). Compared to conventional photoinduced electron transfer with distinct donor and acceptor moieties, SB-CS offers several advantages for light-driven applications such as organic photovoltaics and photoredox catalysis. Despite its renewed interest, the molecular properties governing SB-CS remain poorly understood. Herein, we systematically evaluate the free energy for SB-CS (ΔG0SB-CS) for nearly 40 polycyclic aromatic

Interfacial nanoflower-nanosheet heterojunction engineering via in-situ ion exchange strategy for ultra-stable asymmetric supercapacitors.

Designing highly dispersed and tightly bound heterojunction to achieve rapid ion transport and electron transfer is a promising strategy for improving electrochemical performance of energy storage system. However, weak interfacial interactions derived from two phase-heterostructure usually enhance charge transfer resistance, which makes poor system efficiency. In this work, an ion exchange strategy was employed to derive iron cobalt layered double hydroxide (FeCo-LDH) from zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-67) on nickel cobalt oxide (NiCo2O4) substrate. The resulting nanoflower-nanosheet FeC

Efficient light-driven CO2 conversion to ethanol using a CQDs/InP@bacteria biohybrid system.

Bacteria can convert CO2 into acetate and ethanol via the Wood-Ljungdahl pathway with H2 as an electron donor, providing a green route for renewable energy production. However, the low solubility of H2 in water limits conversion efficiency. Although in semi-artificial biohybrid systems such as InP-based systems, photogenerated electrons can replace H2 as an alternative driving force, rapid electron-hole recombination limits carbon fixation efficiency. In this work, CQDs were introduced to construct a CQDs/InP composite to facilitate carrier separation and interfacial electron transfer, forming

Charge Transfer Complex between O-Phenylenediamine and 2, 3-Dichloro-5, 6-Dicyano-1, 4-Benzoquinone: Synthesis, Spectrophotometric, Characterization, Computational Analysis, and its Biological Applications.

UV-vis electronic absorption spectroscopy was used to investigate the new molecular charge transfer complex (CTC) interaction between electron donor O-phenylenediamine (OPD) and electron acceptor 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-p-benzoquinone (DDQ). The CTC solution state analysis was carried out by two different polarities. The stoichiometry of the prepared CTC was determined by using Job's, photometric, and conductometric titration methods and was detemined to be 1:1 in both solvents (at 298 K). The formation constant and molar extinction coefficient were determined by applying the modified (1:1) B

Vibrational Mode-Specific Dynamics of the OH + XO→ H + XO2 (X = C/S) Reactions: Similar Topologies, Different Dynamics.

The prototypical complex-forming reactions of OH + CO and OH + SO are critical elementary processes in atmospheric chemistry and combustion systems. The vibrational mode-specific quasi-classical trajectory (QCT) investigations for these two reactions were performed on full-dimensional globally accurate potential energy surfaces (PESs). Integral cross-sections (ICS), differential cross-sections (DCS), and product energy distributions for different vibrational excitation modes were calculated and analyzed.
