Invasive Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) diseases are major causes of childhood morbidity and mortality. For the period from 1994 to 2003, we retrospectively identified 53 children with invasive Hib disease including 31 with meningitis, 14 with pneumonia, 2 with septic arthritis, 2 with epiglottitis, 1 with neutropenic sepsis, and 3 who were bacteraemic without a focus. A review of Haemophilus influenzae (Hi) infections in Mexico over the past 32 years was conducted. The proportion of Hi isolates in relation to positive cultures for distinct diseases was distributed as follows for meningitis (9-69%) and for pneumonia with empyema (6-28%). Ceftriaxone treatment (50 to 80 mg/kg once daily) was given to 201 children between 1 month and 18 years of age. There were 201 serious bacterial infections, including epiglottitis, pneumonia, cellulitis, osteomyelitis, septic arthritis, pyelonephritis, sepsis, and meningitis. Pulmonary sarcomatoid carcinoma is a rare subtype of non-small cell lung cancer with poor prognosis. It often metastasizes to lymph nodes, bone, adrenal gland, liver, and brain. Herein, we present a case of a pulmonary sarcomatoid carcinoma patient with epiglottis and ileum metastasis detected by 18F-FDG PET/CT. Lymphoma or multiple primary cancers with or without regional node metastasis were suspected. Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a benign neoplasm of intermediate biologic potential. It rarely occurs in the larynx, and it has not been previously reported in the epiglottis. We treated a 66-year-old woman who presented with progressive dysphonia and a mass on her suprahyoid epiglottis. Pediatric patients with persistent obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) after adenotonsillectomy often have additional sites of upper airway obstruction such as the tongue base or larynx. Sleep endoscopy and cross-sectional, dynamic imaging can be used to direct surgical management of persistent OSA.
