Impact of Evidence-Based Bundled Nutritional Care on Growth, Development and Nutritional Status in Low Birth Weight Preterm Infants.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of evidence-based bundled nutritional care in low birth weight (LBW) preterm infants. METHODS: The LBW preterm infants in the control group received routine nursing, while those in the observation group received evidence-based bundled nutritional interventions, including breast milk management, feeding management, nutritional monitoring, sucking function stimulation, nest-like intervention, touch intervention and discharge instructions based on routine nursing. All preterm infants were followed up for 6 months. Growth and development i

Emergency Nurses' Training, Experience, and Confidence With Obstetrical Emergencies: A Cross-Sectional Survey in Arkansas.

INTRODUCTION: The United States has the highest maternal mortality rate among high-income countries, with rural states being disproportionately affected. In counties without birthing hospitals, emergency departments can serve as the first point of care for obstetrical complications. This study assessed emergency nurses' experience and confidence in managing obstetrical complications in the rural state of Arkansas. METHODS: Emergency nurses at Arkansas hospitals were invited to participate in a cross-sectional survey. The web-based survey asked nurses to report their experience in managing 15

Measuring Performance on the ABCDEF Bundle During Interprofessional Rounds via a Nurse-Based Assessment Tool.

BACKGROUND: Nurse-led rounding checklists are a common strategy for facilitating evidence-based practice in the intensive care unit (ICU). To streamline checklist workflow, some ICUs have the nurse or another individual listen to the conversation and customize the checklist for each patient. Such customizations assume that individuals can reliably assess whether checklist items have been addressed. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether 1 critical care nurse can reliably assess checklist items on rounds. METHODS: Two nurses performed in-person observation of multidisciplinary ICU rounds. Using a sta

An evaluation of the contribution of critical care outreach to the clinical management of the critically ill ward patient in two acute NHS trusts.

This paper reports on an evaluation of the role and contribution of outreach in the management of the critically ill ward patient using Stake's Responsive Model (Stake, 1975) and case study methodology (Simons, 1980). Twenty cases were examined, purposefully sampling all staff involved in the case identified by an initial interview with the outreach nurse. In total, 80 interviews were carried out, 20 with the outreach nurses and 54 with other members of health care teams involved in the cases, and six further targeted in-depth interviews with senior anaesthetic and nursing staff. The outreach

Vulnerability in nursing science: a principle-based concept analysis.

BACKGROUND: The term "vulnerability" is widely used across disciplines and variably defined within nursing, reflecting differing theoretical and methodological assumptions. This ambiguity hinders coherent application in research and practice. A broad understanding of vulnerability in healthcare is susceptibility to risks and/or illnesses, implying the need for special protection or treatment. METHODS: To clarify the concept of vulnerability in nursing, its disciplinary meanings were synthesized and its maturity was evaluated by using a principle-based concept analysis according to Penrod and

Can AI grade like a nurse educator? Benchmarking large language models for automated scoring of open-ended assessments in nursing education: A descriptive cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Open-ended, case-based assessments are essential for evaluating clinical reasoning in nursing education, yet their high-scoring burden limits their widespread use, particularly in large cohorts. Large language models (LLMs) may reduce this barrier, but empirical evidence in nursing education remains scarce. OBJECTIVES: To examine the agreement between rubric-guided LLM scoring and academic consensus, evaluate the consistency of LLM scoring across repeated runs, and explore implications for educator workload and assessment scalability in undergraduate women's health nursing educati

Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor-Related Adrenal Insufficiency.

OBJECTIVE: It is an exciting time in oncology nursing as new treatments are continually emerging to improve oncological outcomes for people affected by cancer. Immunotherapy is one such innovation in contemporary oncology practice, but the side effects of its treatment can be life threatening. Oncology nurses must be educated in the early identification of life-threatening side effects, and deliver evidence-based interventions to manage consequences of therapy such as, immune checkpoint inhibitor-related adrenal insufficiency. DATA SOURCE: This article utilizes a case study to emphasize the n

Multidisciplinary Perioperative Care of a One-Month-Old Infant With Severe Traumatic Brain Injury and Brain Herniation: A Case Report.

Severe traumatic brain injury (sTBI) is a major cause of trauma-related mortality and disability in children. Infants face unique challenges due to physiological immaturity and scarce evidence-based protocols. We report the perioperative nursing management of a one-month-old infant with sTBI complicated by brain herniation, guided by a multidisciplinary team (MDT) through a structured care pathway adapted from the Third Edition of the Guidelines for the Management of Pediatric Severe Traumatic Brain Injury with infant-specific modifications. The patient presented with respiratory and circulato

The experience of eating for older nursing home residents with dysphagia: A qualitative descriptive study.

BACKGROUND: Understanding the experience of eating for nursing home residents with dysphagia is essential for developing effective and holistic compensatory intervention programmes for older adults with dysphagia. However, there is a lack of studies on the experience of eating for older adults with dysphagia, especially for individuals in Asian cultures. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to understand the experience of eating for older nursing home residents who have difficulty swallowing (dysphagia), which is often a problem for this population. METHODS: This qualitative descriptive study recrui

Nurses' attitudes toward professional attire: a cross-sectional study of preferences for scrubs versus white coats.

BACKGROUND: Professional uniforms are a key component in conveying the identity, authority, and responsibilities of healthcare personnel. In Iran and several other Middle Eastern countries, the traditional white coat remains the standard nursing uniform. However, this practice often blurs the distinction between nurses and other members of the healthcare team, potentially leading to confusion and dissatisfaction among both patients and nursing staff. This study aimed to explore nurses’ attitudes toward their professional uniforms and to examine their preferences between scrubs and white coats.

Family-centred care in adult intensive care units: A scoping review protocol of secondary evidence with a focus on the nursing role.

Admission to an adult intensive care unit (ICU) is a profoundly disruptive experience for both patients and their families. Family-Centred Care (FCC) is the predominant framework for addressing their needs, yet the secondary evidence base is heterogeneous and the specific nursing contribution remains insufficiently theorised. This protocol describes a scoping review designed to systematically map the secondary evidence on FCC in adult ICUs, with particular attention to the nursing role, the nurse-family relationship, and the instruments used to measure FCC-related constructs. Conducted in acco
