Mass public shootings are typically followed by a spike in gun sales as well as calls for stricter gun control laws. What remains unclear is whether the spike in gun sales is motivated by increased threat perceptions or by concerns about gun control, or whether the sales are mainly driven by non-owners purchasing guns or gun owners adding to their collection. Few studies have examined the biomechanical basis for backspatter from cranial gunshot wounds. Backspatter is material which travels against the direction of fire following ejection from a gunshot entrance wound. Our paper focuses on the use of animals for reconstructing this phenomenon. OBJECTIVES: To investigate the association of carbonated non-diet soft drink consumption and violence perpetration in a sample of Boston adolescents.
METHODS: In a survey of Boston public high schools, respondents were asked how often they drank non-diet soft drinks and whether they had carried a weapon or engaged in physical violence with a peer. Regression analysis was used to determine the role of soft drink consumption in these behaviours.

The results of experimental study of circulatory acute phase response to the gunshot trauma have shown that triggering of pathologic cascade defined as the traumatic shock is attributed to the free radical concentration created by the wounding projectile in the damaged tissues due to injury sphere formation. So the further study of etiology and pathogenesis of combat pathology is required, the results of which will permit to improve considerably the quality of medical aid rendered to the wounded and casualties.

Shotgun pellets containing bismuth have been suggested to be less environmentally toxic than those containing other metals. We sought to find if bismuth from shotgun pellets embedded within an animal enters the tissues of that animal. Five bismuth-containing shotgun pellets were placed intraperitoneally into adult mice. We report the clinical case of a 10-year old patient who received an accidental shot puncturing the right auricle, with generation of an important hemopericardium. A favorable evolution followed conservative treatment. However, we want to emphasize the potential gravity of injuries caused by this type of weapon.
