Utility of FDG-PET scanning in lymphoma by WHO classification.

We retrospectively evaluated (18)fluoro-2-deoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) scans in 172 patients with lymphoma and correlated results with pathologic diagnosis using the World Health Organization (WHO) classification system. In total, FDG-PET detected disease in at least one site in 161 patients (94%) and failed to detect disease in 11 patients (6%). The most frequent lymphoma diagnoses were diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (LBCL; n = 51), Hodgkin lymphoma (HL; n = 47), follicular lymphoma (FL; n = 42), marginal zone lymphoma (MZL; n = 12), mantle cell lymphoma (MCL; n = 7), an

Obstructed ectopic kidney mimicking Chilaiditi syndrome on F-18 FDG imaging.

Fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography was obtained in a patient with a duodenal mass. Conventional imaging revealed multiple dilated intestinal loops. Initial impression of positron emission tomographic images was interposition of a loop of bowel between the liver and diaphragm (Chilaiditi syndrome) in an unusual location, with absent right kidney activity. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging of the abdomen showed an obstructed ectopic kidney in this position with a markedly dilated collecting system. There is absence of fluorodeoxyglucose in the markedly d

Reevaluation of the standardized uptake value for FDG: variations with body weight and methods for correction.

PURPOSE: To reevaluate the relationships between standardized uptake values (SUVs) and body weight by using positron emission tomography (PET) with 2-[fluorine 18]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (FDG). MATERIALS AND METHODS: FDG PET scanning was performed in 138 female patients with known or suspected primary breast cancers. SUVs in blood and tumor (n = 79) were calculated by using body weight (SUVbw), ideal body weight (SUVibw), lean body mass (SUVlbm), and body surface area (SUVbsa) on images obtained 50-60 minutes after the injection of FDG. RESULTS: There was a strong positive correlation betwe

Parapharyngeal meningioma extending from the intracranial space evaluated by FDG PET.

We report a rare case of parapharyngeal meningioma extending from the intracranial space evaluated by PET with [18F]-2-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG). Although the parapharyngeal meningioma had a high rate of glucose metabolism, it was proved to be pathohistologically benign. The high rate of glucose metabolism of the tumor reflected tumor aggressiveness well because the tumor grew in a relatively short time.

Local cerebral metabolic rate for glucose during petit mal absences.

Four patients with primary generalized or true petit mal epilepsy were studied with positron emission tomography using [18F]fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG). FDG studies were carried out during 10 minutes of hyperventilation before and again after medical control of spontaneous absences. Before seizures were controlled all 4 patients demonstrated frequent bilaterally synchronous three-per-second spike-and-wave discharges associated with altered consciousness. After spontaneous seizures were controlled, hyperventilation produced only electroencephalographic slowing without clinical symptoms in 3; the f

Clinical PET/MR.

Oncologic imaging has been a major focus of clinical research on PET/MR imaging over the last 10 years. Studies so far have shown that PET/MR with 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) overall provides a similar accuracy for tumor staging as FDG PET/CT. The effective radiation dose of whole-body FDG PET/MR is more than 50% lower than for FDG PET/CT, making PET/MR particularly attractive for imaging of children. However, the longer acquisition times and higher costs have so far limited broader clinical use of PET/MR technology for whole-body staging. With the currently available technology, PET/MR appea

Characterization of regional brain metabolic changes in metastatic melanoma using 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging: A case report.

Brain metastases occur in 40%-60% of melanoma patients and represent a major clinical challenge with historically poor prognosis. While conventional neuroimaging modalities such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) delineate metastases with high specificity, they cannot capture the widespread cerebral metabolic disruptions that underlie neurological impairment associated with infiltrative lesions. This case report demonstrates the utility of fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET/CT) in characterizing regional brain metabolic changes in me

FDG PET/CT in a Case of Post-Hysterectomy Adnexal Torsion.

A 33-year-old woman, who underwent right salpingo-oophorectomy with total hysterectomy for right ovarian yolk sac tumor 28 months ago, was referred for FDG PET/CT to evaluate possible left ovarian metastasis detected on CT. FDG PET/CT showed an irregular solid mass with peripheral activity and central photonpenic area in the left pelvis. The mass showed ring-like activity on the axial plane and tennis racket-like activity on the oblique coronal plane. Left adnexal metastasis with central necrosis was suspected. Left salpingo-oophorectomy revealed adnexal torsion with necrosis, hemorrhage, and

Mask-aware foundational-model embeddings for 18F-FDG-PET/CT prognosis in multiple myeloma.

PURPOSE: To test whether internal memory states from a medical foundational segmentation model can serve as compact, mask-aware embeddings for predicting progression-free survival (PFS) in multiple myeloma (MM) from whole-body [18F]FDG PET/CT, and how late fusion of PET, CT, and clinical data enhances prognostic performance. METHODS: We analyzed 227 newly diagnosed MM patients with PET/CT and clinical data. For two regions of interest (spine-dilated and full skeleton), we prompted MedSAM2 slice-wise using mask-derived bounding boxes and cached the final spatio-temporal memory tensor per modal

The Eye-Black Sign on 18F-FDG PET/CT in Endometrial Adenocarcinoma Without Prior Systemic Therapy: A Rare Imaging Pitfall.

Incidental findings on 18F-FDG PET/CT may mimic pathologic processes, making recognition of imaging pitfalls essential. The eye-black sign, a rare finding characterized by bilateral symmetric FDG uptake in the lower eyelids, has mainly been reported in patients receiving systemic oncologic therapy. We present a 53-year-old woman with endometrial adenocarcinoma treated surgically and with adjuvant vaginal brachytherapy, without systemic therapy. Follow-up PET/CT 18 months later showed bilateral lower eyelid uptake (SUVmax: 9.7) without recurrence. Biopsy revealed chronic inflammatory changes. T

Guillain-Barré syndrome involving reproductive system revealed on 18F-FDG PET/CT: a case report.

Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is an immune-mediated acute inflammatory peripheral neuropathy. While it is well-established that its typical manifestations involve the peripheral nerves, it is noteworthy that involvement of the central nervous system and the reproductive system is exceedingly rare. Here we report the case of a 67-year-old man with GBS in whom the 18F-FDG PET/CT demonstrated systemic inflammatory hypermetabolism. The imaging revealed multifocal, heterogeneous high-activity along the nerve roots, cerebral cortex, hypothalamus, and medulla oblongata. Crucially, it also identified

Intense FDG Activity of the Brain Caused by Cerebral Hypoperfusion.

We describe FDG PET/CT and PET/MRI findings in a case with severe stenosis of the left posterior cerebral artery and impaired perfusion of the left posterior cerebral artery territory as evidenced by CT angiography and CT perfusion. FDG PET/CT and PET/MRI showed a wedge-shaped intense activity in the left posterior cerebral artery territory with mild parenchymal atrophy and no infarction. The intense FDG activity in the left posterior cerebral artery territory may be caused by activation of glucose transporters and elevated glycolytic activity as compensation for hypoperfusion resulting from t

FDG PET/CT in a Case of Clear Cell Carcinoma Arising From Abdominal Wall Endometriosis.

Abdominal wall endometriosis is rare. Malignant transformation of abdominal wall endometriosis is extremely rare. We describe FDG PET/CT findings in a case of clear cell carcinoma arising from abdominal wall endometriosis with multiple lymph node metastases. The primary tumor was located at the site of the prior cesarean section and showed intense FDG activity with a SUV max of 26. The metastatic lymph nodes in the bilateral inguinal and pelvic regions showed variable FDG-activity. This case indicates that malignant transformation of abdominal wall endometriosis should be included in the diffe

Posterior Cortex Deafferentation Following Surgical Disconnection Revealed by 18 F-FDG PET/MRI Fusion.

An 8-year-old girl was diagnosed with epileptic encephalopathy, which progressed to Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. She experienced daily episodes of behavioral arrest and frequent drop attacks, resulting in cuts and injuries. In 2019, she underwent a lesionectomy to remove a cystic lesion located at the edge of the right parietal lateral ventricle atrium, accompanied by parieto-occipital disconnection and posterior callosotomy. Anatomopathological analysis showed an ependymal cyst, a rare benign neuroepithelial lesion. Postoperative PET/MRI imaging revealed the absence of metabolic activity in the r

18F-FDG PET/CT in a Rare Case of Malignant Proliferating Trichilemmal Cyst Secondary to Trichilemmal Cystic Nevus.

A 52-year-old man with multiple scalp nodules for more than 30 years and a right occipital mass that had been progressively enlarging for the past 2 years and rupturing and draining for more than 6 months was pathologically confirmed to be secondary malignant proliferating trichilemmal cyst (MPTC). 18F-FDG PET/CT showed active glucose metabolism in the scalp lesion and similar hypermetabolism in the dorsal and right iliac spine skin nodules. This case demonstrates the significant advantages of 18F-FDG PET/CT whole-body imaging in evaluating malignant proliferating trichilemmal cyst, a rare dis

Local and systemic biodistribution of a small-molecule radiopharmaceutical probe after transcatheter embolization and intra-arterial delivery in a porcine orthotopic renal tumor model.

BACKGROUND: Small-molecule biomacromolecules target tumor-specific antigens. They are employed as theranostic agents for imaging and treatment. Intravenous small-molecule radioligands exhibit rapid tumor uptake and excretion. However, systemic administration for peptide receptor radionuclide therapy still lacks the therapeutic index to completely treat solid tumors beyond palliation. We study intra-arterial delivery with tumor embolization of a small molecule as a means to deliver local intertumoral brachytherapy for curative internal ablation. RESULTS: 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) was used a

Rare Immuno-Induced Keratoacanthomas Showed on 18F-FDG PET/CT in a Metastatic Melanoma Patient.

A 76-year-old man managed for stage IV advanced melanoma was treated with nivolumab-ipilimumab, complicated by corticotropic insufficiency, hypothyroidism, and rash. At first evaluation, 18F-FDG PET/CT clearly showed complete metabolic response allowing continued treatment with nivolumab alone. At 6 months, 18F-FDG PET/CT fully confirmed the persistence of complete metabolic response but showed the appearance of cutaneous focal uptakes of both lateral thighs and a cutaneous diffuse uptake on lower limbs. Clinically, he had a severe verrucous lichenoid eruption with eruptive keratoacanthomas, c
