Tibial spine avulsion fractures, or tibial eminence fractures, are intra-articular knee injuries that affect the bony attachment of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). It is commonly seen in children and adolescents aged 8 to 15 years old and can be caused by noncontact pivot shift injuries or by traumatic hyperextension knee injuries, as seen in adult ACL patients. A thorough history and physical exam is important in these patients alongside proper imaging that will confirm the diagnosis of a tibial spine avulsion. Proper imaging may also demonstrate other associated conditions or injuries

BACKGROUND: Traumatic dental injuries (TDI) require prompt and appropriate first aid; however, non-dental healthcare professionals often lack sufficient knowledge to manage such cases effectively. This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of clinical decision-making among medical students in dental trauma scenarios and to identify factors influencing their performance, including knowledge, experience, and educational attitudes.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional survey of 291 medical students assessed knowledge, decision-making accuracy, and educational attitudes toward dental trauma ma

This is a case report of a 15-year-old male patient who presented with bilateral tibial tubercle avulsions and a unilateral complete patellar tendon stripping following a fall on both knees while playing football. The left knee was treated conservatively, while the right underwent open reduction internal fixation and patella tendon repair. The case was followed for one year postoperatively. Complete soft tissue and fracture healing were reported bilaterally. A modified Lysholm score of 84 compared to 95 pre-injury and a Tegner score of four compared to nine pre-injury were recorded. This case

This report describes the unusual case and surgical repair of avulsion and external herniation of the levator palpebrae superioris (LPS) aponeurosis and attached muscle fibres associated with superior tarsal plate fracture in an 8-year-old Indigenous girl. To the authors' knowledge, isolated and complete levator palpebrae superioris avulsion with external herniation in trauma is previously unreported. Open injury to LPS requires swift surgical repair, and an anterior ptosis repair approach may facilitate identification of anatomical structures to prevent upper eyelid ptosis. Ultimately, the su

The avulsion fracture of the extensor tendon is first fixed with two PDS-splints to prevent rotation. Thereafter, the fragment is put on compression by a PDS-suture. The treatment is similar to the use of Kirschner wires and a wire tension-band.

Fracture of the intercondylar eminence of the tibia occurs more frequently in children than in adults. This fracture may occur as an isolated injury without damage to the other structures of the knee joint. X-ray examination of the painful swollen knee of the child is necessary to determine the exact diagnosis. Type I and type II fractures of the intercondylar eminence of the tibia require only immobilisation in a plaster cast after anatomical reposition. Open reduction is often necessary following type III fractures and almost invariably following type IV fractures. Following anatomical repos

INTRODUCTION: In a previous cadaveric study, we described the Posterior to Anterior Malleolar Extended Lateral Approach (PAMELA) to address complex ankle fractures. It was demonstrated to provide optimal exposure of the posterior and lateral malleoli, and of the anterolateral portion of the ankle through a single incision. The aim of this study is to report the clinical results of this novel approach.
METHODS: Between January 2019 and January 2021, all patients presenting with a complex ankle fracture in our institution were assessed by CT scan. Indication to use the PAMELA was determined by

Split-thickness skin excision can be used as a one-stage procedure for the accurate diagnosis of flap viability and the immediate treatment of friction-avulsion injuries in severe open fractures. After cleaning the wound, the avulsed flap is temporarily sutured back to its original bed and a split thickness graft is taken from it and meshed to a 1:3 ratio. Surface dermal capillary bleeding then serves as an indicator of viability, clearly displaying a line for the excision of devascularized skin and correlating well with a concomitant fluorescein test. The wounds are re-opened and, after fixat

The aim of this study was to investigate pre-injury factors, causes of dental injuries and healing complications after traumatic injuries to permanent teeth. The analysed sample comprised 889 permanent teeth of 384 patients, who were treated in the Dentistry Department in Faculty Hospital in Pilsen. Enamel-dentin fractures [233 teeth (26.2%)] and lateral luxations [207 teeth (23.3%)] were the most frequent injuries. The age of the patients at the time of injury varied between 7 and 65 years. Predominantly, children were affected [587 injured teeth (66.0%)]. The most frequent causes of injuries

For acute Jones' fractures in recreationally active patients, early intramedullary screw fixation results in lower failure rates and shorter times to both clinical union and return to sports than non-weightbearing short leg casting (strength of recommendation [SOR]: A, based on 2 randomized controlled trials [RCT]). Non-weightbearing short leg casting achieves union in 56% to 100% of patients but can require prolonged casting (SOR: B, based on 2 prospective cohorts and multiple retrospective, follow-up studies). Stress fractures were not included in this review. For avulsion fractures of the f

We present tension-band wiring in the treatment of Salter-Harris types III and IV avulsion fractures in the hand. By placing a small-gauge wire through the insertion of the ligament into the fracture fragment, accurate reduction and stability, allowing early mobilization, are achieved, avoiding many of the pitfalls and complications of other methods of internal fixation. The technique is simple and adheres to important physiological and biomechanical principles.

Compression fracture of the secondary centers of ossification is an important factor in the pathogenesis of Perthes' disease and osteochondrosis dissecans. Avulsion fracture produces osteochondrosis affecting the non-articular epiphyses, e.g., Osgood-Schlatter disease. Some of these injuries appear to be produced solely by repetitive trauma and others may represent pathologic insult to constitutionally vulnerable or revascularizing bone, e.g., the femoral head in Perthes' disease.

To determine whether the Osgood-Schlatter lesion (OS) is produced by avulsion fracture or injury to the patellar tendon, all images obtained in 28 cases of OS in 20 patients (16 scintigrams, 34 computed tomographic [CT] scans, and 27 magnetic resonance [MR] images) were retrospectively analyzed. In 21 cases, imaging was performed before and after treatment; in 20 cases, relief from pain was complete at the time of repeat examination. In all patients (100%), abnormal size of the tendon, decreased attenuation, and increase in signal intensity were compatible with the CT and MR imaging appearance

A prospective study was performed to establish definitive guidelines for selective use of radiography in the assessment of inversion ankle injuries. Five hundred patients were included, representing 3.2% of the workload of the department during the study period. There were 379 soft tissue injuries, 56 malleolar fractures, 40 avulsion fractures, 21 fractures at the base of the fifth metatarsal, and four calcaneal fractures. Multiple logistic regression identified distal fibular tenderness, age, and ability to bear weight as the most important clinical variables in predicting important fractures

We have recently treated two patients with closed pronation-external rotation bimalleolar ankle fractures. During the surgical explorations, an avulsion type rupture of the posterior tibial tendon was observed. Open reduction and internal fixation of the fracture in conjunction with primary tendon repair has produced excellent clinical results. We wish to report these two cases of this uncommon injury. More important, we wish to point out the association of the tendon rupture in conjunction with a particular type of fracture pattern.

Scaphocaptiate fracture syndrome is a unique condition and is challenging to manage. This rare fracture develops after high-energy wrist trauma. We reported a patient with a history of falling on an outstretched hand. A 15-year-old boy had scaphocapitate fracture syndrome, which included a displaced fracture of the capitate, an avulsion fracture at the distal tubercle of the scaphoid bone with an extension to the articular surface, and a perilunate fracture. A few months after open reduction and internal fixation were performed, the patient had a satisfying outcome. In addition, we have conduc

The scaphoid is the most common carpal bone fractured in adults. In children the fracture is distinctly uncommon. We present our experience with 23 children treated between 1987-1998, 19 of them with fractures in the distal third of the wrist; there were 11 avulsions, 4 waist fractures, and 12 were undisplaced. The mechanism of injury was a direct blow or a fall onto the outstretched hand. Immobilization in a plaster cast led to union in all except 1 case. Based on our experience and study of the literature, it is evident that scaphoid fractures, although uncommon, do occur. Thorough clinical
