Phytochemical, antioxidant and hepatoprotective effects of Alnus nitida bark in carbon tetrachloride challenged Sprague Dawley rats.

BACKGROUND: Alnus nitida (Spach) Endl. is traditionally used for inflammatory disorders. Diarylheptanoids constituents having diverse therap … pato-protective activity. HPLC-DAD analysis against eight known standards confirmed the presence of gallic acid, catechin and rutin in ANM and in ANA while in ANE gallic acid was only detected. CONCLUSION: Based on the results of antioxidants, restoration of various antioxidant enzymes and histopathological studies, the recent study concludes that antioxidan …

Nutritional Value, Phytochemical Composition and Biological Activities of Lycium barbarum L. fruits from Serbia.

Cultivation of goji berries (GB), fruits of Lycium barbarum L. (Solanaceae), is expanding worldwide, including in Europe. In this study, a c … -sitosterol, Δ5-avenasterol, and 24-methyldesmosterol are the predominant sterols and caffeic acid, gallic acid, quercetin and rutin are the main phenols. All GB samples showed both antioxidant and mild antimicrobial activity. A dose-dependent anti-enzymatic activity (IC50 ranging 1.68-6.88 mg/mL) was demonstrated. The results support further promotion of GB …

Inhibition of gastric H(+),K(+)-ATPase and Helicobacter pylori growth by phenolic antioxidants of Curcuma amada.

Gastric ulcer is the most prevalent gastrointestinal disorder, resulting from oxidative stress, Helicobacter pylori infection, up-regulation of proton potassium ATPase (PPA) activity, down-regulation of gastric mucosal defense, etc. In this paper it is reported that phenolic fractions of Curcuma amada, commonly known as mango ginger, acted as potent inhibitors of PPA and H. pylori growth. Mango ginger free phenolics (MGFP) and mango ginger bound phenolics (MGBP) inhibited PPA at IC50 values of 2.2 +/- 0.21 and 0.7 +/- 0.08 microg/mL, respectively, exhibiting 9-27-fold better potency over lanso

The potential neuroprotective effects of stingless bee honey.

Tropical Meliponini bees produce stingless bee honey (SBH). Studies have shown beneficial properties, including antibacterial, bacteriostatic, anti-inflammatory, neurotherapeutic, neuroprotective, wound, and sunburn healing capabilities. High phenolic acid and flavonoid concentrations offer SBH its benefits. SBH can include flavonoids, phenolic acids, ascorbic acid, tocopherol, organic acids, amino acids, and protein, depending on its botanical and geographic origins. Ursolic acid, p-coumaric acid, and gallic acid may diminish apoptotic signals in neuronal cells, such as nuclear morphological …

Exploring the therapeutic potential of Thymus vulgaris ethanol extract: a computational screening for antimicrobial compounds against COVID-19 induced mucormycosis.

COVID-19-associated mucormycosis (CAM) has emerged as a concerning complication during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this study, we explored the potential of phytochemicals and flavonoids identified through High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) analysis of Thymus vulgaris plant extract against key proteins of CAM, namely heat shock protein A5 (GPR78) and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). HPLC analysis revealed the presence of bioactive compounds, including chlorogenic acid, cinamic acid, quercetin, coumaric acid, gallic acid, and syringic acid. To assess their efficacy against CAM, …

[Changes in the concentration of calcium ions and rhythm of protein synthesis in the culture of hepatocytes].

We studied the effects of the chelating agents of extra- and intracellular calcium ions, EGTA and BAPTA-AM, and of the inhibitor of Ca2+ release from the reticulum, TMB-8, in the kinetics of protein synthesis in hepatocyte cultures. We also studied dense cultures capable of self-synchronization of protein synthesis oscillations and diluted cultures, in which synchronization is induced by phenylephrine or gangliosides (standard preparation of total gangliosides from the bovine brain). Preincubation of the diluted or dense cultures in the presence of 2 mM EGTA for 1-2 h with subsequent protein a
