Lobular capillary hemangioma (pyogenic granuloma) has been reported more frequently in the skin (88%) than in the mucous membranes (12%). Granuloma gravidarum is a pyogenic granuloma that develops during pregnancy, often in the oral mucosa. Estrogens apparently increase the inflammatory response of mucous membranes. In this article, we describe the first case of a granuloma gravidarum of the scalp.

Pyogenic granuloma is a type of inflammatory hyperplasia. The term "inflammatory hyperplasia" is used to describe nodular growths of oral mucosa that histologically contain inflamed fibrous and granulation tissues. It is nonneoplastic. 13 patients with pyogenic granuloma were treated with a CO2 laser using the continuous wave laser in all cases and using additionally the ultrapulsed laser in 7 patients. The pyogenic granuloma was removed in all patients in one session. Side effects included transient erythema in 8 patients and scars in 2 cases. There was no hypo- or hyperpigmentation. The use of the CO2 laser is a fast and bloodless way to treat pyogenic granuloma with slight side effects and is an elegant alternative to standard approaches.

The purpose of this study was to present the clinical features of reactive hyperplasia among Iranian people. A series of 172 consecutive confirmed cases were studied using the database available at the Department of Oral Medicine, Kerman School of Dentistry. Pyogenic granulomas are common benign skin growths often present at sites of trauma. They can be difficult to treat in austere environments. A case report of a pyogenic granuloma in an austere environment has not previously been published. We submit this work to describe a case of a pyogenic granuloma arising from a properly treated laceration in an austere environment and to review current treatment options. Multiple treatment modalities are available to providers with limited resources to include topical Imiquimod, ethanol injection, silver nitrate application, and oral steroids.

BACKGROUND: An abundance of microvessels is the major phenotype of pyogenic granuloma, which has been considered a hormone-related lesion based on clinical observations. Although angiogenic factors and inflammatory cytokines have been implied to play roles in the pathogenesis of pyogenic granuloma, their links to female steroid hormones still remain to be elucidated. Pyogenic granuloma gravidarum is a rare condition. There have been very few reports in the literature of these tumours affecting the tongue. We describe a case of pyogenic granuloma occurring on the tongue of a female who was 32 weeks pregnant. We present the clinical and histopathological features of this rare condition, discuss treatment options and review current literature.

Lobular capillary hemangioma or pyogenic granuloma is a benign vascular tumor of the skin or mucous membranes. Most patients present a single lesion. It manifests clinically as an erythematous, friable, and fast-growing tumor. This report details a case with exuberant presentation in a patient with ankylosing spondylitis, using adalimumab. Factors triggering pyogenic granuloma are not well known. They may spontaneously regress, but most require treatment.

A pyogenic granuloma is an acquired, benign tissue formation of the skin and/or oral mucosa. Surgical excision is the most common treatment for these lesions. In this case report a case of a 60-year-old woman with a pyogenic granuloma in region 21 is presented. An excisional biopsy was performed with a CO2 laser under local anesthesia and the specimen was examined by a pathologist. No recurrency were observed in this case.

The authors studied 27 cases of Kaposi's sarcoma, 23 cases of pyogenic granuloma, 18 cases of hemangioma, 17 cases of stasis dermatitis and 9 cases of dermatofibroma. In all these cases, they used the hematoxylin-eosin stain and Perls' stain', and they showed the presence of hemosiderin in all the cases of Kaposi's sarcoma and stasis dermatitis. The hemangioma and the dermatofibroma presented 50% of positivity, and the pyogenic granuloma, only 26.1%.
