The chemico-therapeutical activity of albendasol was studied on 45 guinea-pigs experimentally invaded by 500 muscle trichinellae. The experimental animals were treated with the preparation on the 30th, 60th and 90th day post invasion. At the 10 mg/kg dose a 96.4% effectiveness against 30 day muscle trichinellae, 95.2% against the 60 day, and 81.2% against the 90 day trichinellae was scored, while at 20 mg/kg dose the effectiveness of the treatment was respectively 97.1, 96.3 and 88.6%. This study reports the induction of contact photodermatitis to musk ambrette, 2-methoxy-3,5-dinitro-4-methyl-t-butylbenzene, in guinea pigs. Photoallergic contact dermatitis was assayed using 2 alternative induction methods. The role of the immune response in the pathogenesis of Rickettsia rickettsii infection in guinea pigs was investigated by immunosuppression, using antilymphocyte serum. Testes of pre- and post-pubertal guinea pigs were examined histologically and biochemically to see if ascorbic acid deficiency brought about any changes in their structure or function. Apart from a slight but significant fall in gonadal cholesterol there was no apparent change in the histology or testosterone content in scorbutic guinea pigs. Plasma cholesterol and testosterone were also similar in the control and scorbutic animals.

Noradrenaline (10 microgram) injected into the lateral cerebral ventricle of guinea pigs aged 2 to 12 days produced a rapid increase in oxygen consumption and in colonic temperature at an ambient temperature of 30 degrees C. The increase was most pronounced in the youngest animals and decreased with advancing age, but was still significant at 12 days of age. Species differences and the role of ambient temperature in the responses are discussed.

The maximal response of a selection of ascorbic-acid-dependent parameters to a range of intakes of ascorbic acid has been shown to occur at virtually one level of intake in the present experiments. In the guinea-pig isolated ileum, lanthanum increases the quantity of spontaneously released acetylcholine and induces contracture of this muscle. We have shown that the latter phenomenon is not a consequence of the former. We conclude that it could be due to the Ca++ displaced by La+++. The scorpion venom effects are abolished by lanthanum. We explain this observation by blockage of Ca++ fluxes.

Histamine release was produced in the isolated perfused guinea-pig lung by injecting the pulmonary artery with rabbit antiserum to guinea-pig γ-globulin. The activity of the antiserum was absorbed by electrophoretically fast migrating guinea-pig γ-globulin but not by slow γ-globulin.
