Specific MR techniques are required for optimal detection of adenocorticotropic hormone secreting adenomas responsible for Cushing's disease. From 118 transsphenoidally operated patients, 100 had a pituitary adenoma; 33 prolactinomas, 20 HGH-producing, 2 ACTH-producing and 45 inactive adenomas. In hypophysectomized pregnant mice replacement therapy designed to mimic the normal physiological situation showed that FSH in combination with either prolactin or LH, or prolactin plus LH, could initiate implantation in the absence of the pituitary gland.
