Beyond the source baseline: Model-scale conditional re-expression of soil metal signals across environmental contexts.

Source-related information is widely used in soil heavy-metal screening, but source-related conditions do not necessarily coincide with observed concentration patterns. Using 687 cropland soil samples from a tropical monsoon region in southern China, we tested whether soil-property and landscape-hydroclimatic predictors added predictive information beyond a Source-only baseline under nested spatial-block cross-validation. Four XGBoost configurations were compared using spatial out-of-fold (OOF) predictions, grouped SHAP attribution, prediction shifts, and mixed-effects summaries. Source-only O

Scabies and pediculosis.

Although scabies and pediculosis are difficult and widespread problems, there are many effective treatments available. Dermatologists play a major role in educating the public in prevention and diagnosis. Although patients are more aware and well informed of the infections because of the Internet and other sources, practitioners are often the most important source of information and treatment in helping to eradicate this worldwide problem.

Determining the Most Likely Source of Infection: An Application to Neisseria Gonorrhoeae Among Men Who Have Sex with Men.

BACKGROUND: The source of an infection is often unknown. To inform directed prevention measures, it is useful to know the location and partner type with the highest transmission risk. We developed a method to estimate infection risk of Neisseria gonorrhoeae per meeting location among men who have sex with men (MSM). METHODS: In 2008-2009, we collected information from 2,438 MSM attending the sexually transmitted infections clinic of Amsterdam. For up to four partners per participant (8,028 in total), we asked for details on meeting location, partner, and partnership characteristics. We used l

Determinants of pre-exposure rabies vaccination among foreign backpackers in Bangkok, Thailand.

Important variations were observed regarding the proportion of backpackers seeking information about travel-associated diseases before departing for Thailand. The main determinants were nationality, reason for travel and age. Sources of information used by travelers varied substantially according to nationality. Moreover, significant differences were recorded regarding pre-exposure vaccination rates against rabies. Having British or Irish citizenship and seeking advice from travel clinic specialists or friends were the strongest and most significant determinants of rabies vaccination history.

Mycobacterium avium ssp. paratuberculosis detection in animals, food, water and other sources or vehicles of human exposure: A scoping review of the existing evidence.

Mycobacterium avium ssp. paratuberculosis is the etiologic agent of Johne's disease in ruminants and is hypothesized to be an infectious cause of Crohn's disease, as well as some other human diseases. Due to key knowledge gaps, the potential public health impact of M. paratuberculosis is unknown. This scoping review aims to identify and characterised the evidence on potential sources and vehicles of M. paratuberculosis exposure for humans to better understand how exposure is likely to occur. Evidence from 255 primary research papers is summarized; most examined the prevalence or concentration

Brief Report: Sources of Sexuality and Relationship Education for Autistic and Neurotypical Adults in the U.S. and a Call to Action.

Sexuality and relationship education (SRE) occurs in many formats. In order to inform best practices, current trends of SRE sources must be characterized. Using an online survey of autistic and neurotypical adults in the United States, we compared eleven potential sources of SRE across nine content areas. Source use did not differ significantly across five of the content areas. Same-aged peers were consulted less often by the autistic adults for flirting, dating, and consent. For partnered sexual behavior, neurotypical adults reported consulting romantic partners significantly more often than

The reliability and quality analysis of health information about Helicobacter pylori on WeChat official accounts.

INTRODUCTION: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) has drawn considerable attention because of its high infection rate. Although WeChat Official accounts (WOAs) have become a prevalent source of public health information, the reliability and scientific validity of H. pylori-related content on the platform remain uncertain. Therefore, this study aimed to systematically evaluate the reliability and quality of health information on H. pylori disseminated through WOAs and propose evidence-based strategies for enhancing the standard of online health information. METHODS: Articles containing the keyword

Socio-cultural and structural barriers influencing parents' knowledge and access to information on schistosomiasis in children around Ugandan Lakes.

BACKGROUND: In Uganda, the national prevalence of schistosomiasis is 36.1% among the two-to-four-year age group. Knowledge about schistosomiasis and socio-cultural factors have been reported to influence adult participation in mass drug administrations of praziquantel, the standard medication used to treat the disease. In advance and support of the (pilot) introduction of the recently developed paediatric praziquantel formulation (arpraziquantel), we conducted research on parent and other community members' knowledge about paediatric schistosomiasis, their information sources, and potential pe…

Accessibility, Agency, and Trust: A Study About Equestrians' (Online) Learning Repertoires.

Todays' online media landscape facilitates communication on how sports practitioners can develop in their sport. Hence, sports and educational institutions need to recognize the increased role of the individual as "a facilitator of knowledge" through information and communications technology (ICT). For sport organizations and educational institutions to effectively reach out with knowledge and research, they need to know how individuals assess, value, and trust information sources. This article aims to increase the knowledge and understanding of how the traditional culture in equestrianism mee…

Methods to Compare Adverse Events in Twitter to FAERS, Drug Information Databases, and Systematic Reviews: Proof of Concept with Adalimumab.

INTRODUCTION: Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are associated with significant health-related and financial burden, and multiple sources are currently utilized to actively discover them. Social media has been proposed as a potential resource for monitoring ADRs, but drug-specific analytical studies comparing social media with other sources are scarce. OBJECTIVES: Our objective was to develop methods to compare ADRs mentioned in social media with those in traditional sources: the US FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS), drug information databases (DIDs), and systematic reviews. METHODS: A

A goal bias in action: The boundaries adults perceive in events align with sites of actor intent.

We live in a dynamic world comprised of continuous events. Remembering our past and predicting future events, however, requires that we segment these ongoing streams of information in a consistent manner. How is this segmentation achieved? This research examines whether the boundaries adults perceive in events, such as the Olympic figure skating routine used in these studies, align with the beginnings (sources) and endings (goals) of human goal-directed actions. Study 1 showed that a group of experts, given an explicit task with unlimited time to rewatch the event, identified the same subevent

An independent component analysis-based approach on ballistocardiogram artifact removing.

Interest about simultaneous electroencephalography (EEG) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data acquisition has rapidly increased during the last years because of the possibility that the combined method offers to join temporal and spatial resolution, providing in this way a powerful tool to investigate spontaneous and evoked brain activities. However, several intrinsic features of MRI scanning become sources of artifacts on EEG data. Noise sources of a highly predictable nature such as those related to the pulse MRI sequence and those determined by magnetic gradient switching d

Living with pulmonary fibrosis: how affected people experience disease-related information, health services and self-management strategies.

INTRODUCTION: People with pulmonary fibrosis (PF) experience gaps in care, educational resources and self-management strategies throughout their journey. We sought to identify gaps in care and information, determine essential information, examine sources of information and assess preferred modes of delivery for patient education and self-management (PESM) resources and interventions. METHODS: In this qualitative study, we conducted interviews with people with PF using predefined, literature-based categories ("staying well with PF", "keeping fit & strong with PF", "using oxygen therapy", sympt

Common misperceptions and public knowledge about intrauterine devices among US-based online respondents.

OBJECTIVES: Misperceptions about intrauterine devices (IUDs) may dissuade potential users and public beliefs are not well understood.
