Glucocorticoid with or without additional immunosuppressant therapy for patients with lupus podocytopathy: a retrospective single-center study.

Lupus podocytopathy is a newly recognized class of lupus nephritis characterized by extensive glomerular foot process effacement without capillary wall immune deposits. The treatment response and relapse of glucocorticoid with or without additional immunosuppressive agents has not been well investigated. In this study, 50 patients with lupus podocytopathy were included and received glucocorticoid alone (glucocorticoid monotherapy) or glucocorticoid plus additional immunosuppressive agents (combination therapy) for their induction or maintenance treatment regimens. The treatment response and re

A case of severe staphylococcal septicaemia: septic arthritis and a mediastinal abscess following leflunamide therapy for rheumatoid arthritis.

This highly unusual case illustrates how a potentially life-threatening complication may develop insidiously in the context of immunosuppression. A 46-year-old woman presented with increasing malaise and a marked inflammatory response in the context of immunosuppressive therapy for rhueumatoid arthritis. On the basis of microbiological findings, the patient was treated for systemic staphylococcal infection with a prolonged antibiotic course. In addition, incision and drainage procedures were performed on associated, non-resolving abscesses at various sites. One particular lesion in the breast

The prognosis f … as more commonly prescribed in the EORA group (67.1%) compared with the LORA group (37.5%), whereas leflunomide was used more in LORA (68.75%) compared with EORA (46.8%), with statistically significant difference. A machine learning model for predicting abnormal liver function induced by a Chinese herbal medicine preparation (Zhengqing Fengtongning) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis based on real-world study.

OBJECTIVE: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic autoimmune disease that affects the small joints of the whole body and degrades the patie … mbination of TNF-α inhibitors, JAK inhibitors, methotrexate + nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, leflunomide, smoking, older age, and females in middle-age (45-65 years old). CONCLUSION: This study developed a model for predicting ZF-induced abnormal liver function, which may help improve the safety of integrated administration of ZF and Western medicine. …

Prevalence and risk factors of herpes zoster infection in patients with rheumatic diseases not receiving biologic or targeted therapies.

OBJECTIVES: The objective was to study the prevalence and risk factors of herpes zoster (HZ) infection in patients with rheumatic diseases. … use of cyclophosphamide, and increasing doses of prednisolone, azathioprine, hydroxychloroquine and leflunomide were independently associated with HZ infection. CONCLUSIONS: Reactivation of HZ is fairly common in patients with rheumatic diseases. Underlying SLE, age, neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio, and immunosuppressive therapies are independent risk factors. METHODS: We performed a systematic literature review from 1975 to July 2013 using Medline, Embase, Cochrane, and abstracts from the ACR 2010-2012 and EULAR 2010-2013 annual meetings. Efficacy and safety of tocilizumab in a real-life observational cohort of patients with polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the patterns of usage, efficacy and safety of tocilizumab in polyarticular JIA. METHODS: An observational study of 56 consecutive polyarticular JIA patients was conducted using patient charts and electronic JIA databases. Efficacy was assessed by tocilizumab survival, rates of low disease activity (LDA) and of inactive disease by 10-joint Juvenile Arthritis Disease Activity Score (JADAS-10), and of clinically inactive disease according to Wallace's preliminary criteria. Efficacy and rate of adverse events (AEs) were evaluated during a 24-month period after tocilizumab
